I don't think there's a marketing problem for either label, I just think those artist you spoke on are only moderately talented/relevant,

Cactus Jack has seen a bunch of success with Don Toliver

OVO has seen a bunch of success with PND and Majid Jordan

On the other side of that, Sheck Wes doesn't drop and the only song he made that mattered in his career is Mo Bamba, Roy Woods is only a few notches above ok and his career started from Drama being the song the played after Back To Back, DVSN has been in the same space for 3-4 years (respectfully), and Baka is Drake's shooter.

SoFaygo has potential and will most likely float around the same terrain as a Destroy Lonely in the short term.

The real "problem" if any, is active roster building..which I don't see either doing in the immediate future..they don't really need to.

The only artist CEOs actively building their rosters "the right way" in my opinion are Gucci, Future and MoneyBagg Yoo (YTB Fatt, Lil Double O, Boston Richey, Sett, etc.)

It just boggles my mind how Drake has been so active on instagram and didn’t even bother to post ANYTHING about Roy’s project.

He shouldn’t be expected to go out and hand out CD’s for his artists but at least post their s*** man.

I agree its not travis or drake's fault, but they need to definitely step up their marketing department and hire some new people to help, because it's sorta frustrating seeing these artists get zero attention or even tik Tok hype.

    it's simple, the artists suck

music is super subjective that there's a audience for any kind of music.
s*** even Freddie gibbs has a fanbase and I think hes f***ing s***

While both label bosses are very globally successful artists, and have their own successful rnb singers with a consistent enough fanbase to sell 30k-90k sales without hits each album (don toliver, partynextdoor) the lack of marketing and promo for the other artists is f***ing trash.
SoFaygo, Sheck Wes, Roy Woods, DVSN, Baka, etc are definitely treated well by their labels in everything but marketing and features, like travis and drake have never really tried to give these people chances on their own albums or even given them a feature in a while (WHY WASNT FAYGO OR SHECK GIVEN FEATS TO BOOST CAREER).

it might be cuz they busy and s*** with their own careers but I think this is the biggest weak spot in their labels, because the music is THERE, it just doesn't have a audience that knows it exists.

STREAM ROY AND FAYGOS ALBUMS RN

I would say that their lead artists don't take the opportunity to showcase their artists at every chance they get.

especially bc OVO and Cactus Jack are full of actual talent, not just a bunch of dusty niggas that knew Travis and Drake back in the day.

I think SoFaygo would've killed a verse on FE!N and it would have gained him hella fans being on a song with Carti and Travis.

Faygo can't miss if you ask me, his label situation is different bc of having no major label attached. but he will be big one day. first couple tracks and music videos I saw from him I felt like he's gonna be a star.

OVO same s***. Roy is one of the most slept on acts, truly believe that he could be a Drake level artist one day. and instead of Drake taking him on tour and building his buzz when he does something like drop an album with 21 Savage or feature him on his albums despite them having good chemistry and similar styles, Drake ignores that man..

Majid Jordan same thing. Feel like Honestly Nevermind could've used some Jordan Ullman production sauce even if he wanted to keep it mostly a solo affair with the exception of Jimmy Cooks.

if I was Travis Scott I would be setting up major looks for all my artists, even Sheck Wes. that man could come back. but idk if he really cares about rap anymore
Mixed Emotions is a really great album, been playing Utopia more but its the r&b release I didn't know I was waiting for until I had it.

  • JACKWEBVSTHEWORLD2

drake and trav care about their artists but its like they do so little to actually promote their albums and help them gain hype.
I think another thing that contributes is the major labels involved especially for travis, Faygo is only signed to cactus jack no other label so he doesn't have the resources don has through Atlantic.
sheck is signed to good music (AWFUL LABEL) and ovo left Warner a while back which definitely removed some of the marketing support they had.

so OVO is just indie distribution except for Drake who's still through Universal? I think dvsn did some deal with LVRN (Summer Walker, 6LACK) but that's pretty sure they're just management

Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, and ye had no problem doing that lol.

False, it was someone at the label in control of their social media accounts' job. It was a marketing team's job. Rappers do not sit with their artists and tell them the marketing plan.

Facts. Their labels aren’t popping because they don’t want them to be when you look at how Freebandz/CMG/1017/etc stays with popping acts on their rosters.

I think ANKHLEJOHN is great as far as someone who the mainstream would love with the right co sign, can fundamentally rap, is under 30 but I don’t see him fitting with either of those aesthetics/vibes. Honestly the game as a whole has kinda passed the typical s*** you think of when you think of OVO/Cactus Jack’s typical sound and aesthetic

That is another issue, at this point there aren’t that many people who can actually rap and do the mainstream bullshit needed for an opportunity like that without being a full damn near drake clone lol like Jack Harlow or that Wynne chick.

Drake don’t move like this. I give Travis credit for trying with Jackboys. Sheck Wes beating b****es and being the most likely second biggest artist until he does that probably made him say f*** it once Don takes off.

oh this the kind of "marketing" you mean. sure, yeah, drake and travis don't do this.

I mean there's guys in charge of getting them on playlists, billboards in major cities, tv ad's, YouTube ad's, etc. That's marketing.
