Doechii is the kind of artist that deserves all the success. She been trending on tiktok pre-alligator bites so seeing her progress like this was inevitable tbh
I actually think what might be inorganic is the people pushing the narrative that her rise isn't organic lol. (NOT YOU OP, PEOPLE ON TWITTER)
money gets spent on stuff like that. it benefits her because when people hate on something thats actually dope, it galvanizes the people who like it to go defend it, and doing that usually makes them a bigger fan of said artist. hate marketing is actually super powerful. wouldn't surprise me if some smart people are doing that at her label

i was thinking about this
Second time I'm agreeing with Russ in less than 20 hours. He gotta be a chill dude, I just don't like his music
Label does job and pushes new artist: plant inorganic
Label doesn't do job and doesn't push new artist: sabotage blackballed
Label does job and pushes new artist: plant inorganic
Label doesn't do job and doesn't push new artist: sabotage blackballed
I think in some cases like this it may be inauthentic
In a lot of modern cases you're seeing a label recognize a young artist and try to boost them into the public consciousness and make them stick which is harder than ever with how fast things are now
It comes across as heavy handed and inauthentic but I think it's really really hard to balance that currently due to how quickly people forget about stuff
But really when you're going by this definition of "plant" is it even such a bad thing?
The negative connotation to being a "plant" used to be based on an unfair advantage an artist had because of previous connections (nepotism, family friends, anything outside of music that gave them an easier path to success)
Now it seems like the definition shifted
When your definition of a "plant" is just someone being pushed by their label heavily what's even really wrong with that if the music is quality and they seem decent?
Label does job and pushes new artist: plant inorganic
Label doesn't do job and doesn't push new artist: sabotage blackballed
Not really, but that’s ok, it feels kinda counterproductive to have a new artist speed running s*** like tiny desk before they’re truly established but her live performances seem to be garnering a lot of buzz so what do I know
anyone tapped in with tde been known doechii since at least 2021 bro she didnt come out of nowhere lol

I didn’t imply that, she’s not established like that either
what other times has there been
i'm not even disagreeing with that sentiment i'm just saying that it's not the case for doechii
because i've seen way more support than I have hate frankly and even then said hate has not been framed or coming from the point y'all are tryna make about black women IMO

The last new artist that grew “organically” was Bobby Schmurda.
New artists need the push that she’s receiving, it’s almost impossible to break into the mainstream with out it.
Her last album was a good introduction projoect, and I’m sure the label is expecting a good commecial album next year.
This thread is like 90% people being very defensive & the other 10% saying “ maybe hype doesn’t seem completely authentic to me, but who cares she’s talented” 😭
A lot of the acclaim feels inauthentic, but that isn't unique to her. Every year there are a few artists that publications shower with praise because they feel they should.
But her rise to recognition seems like a pretty normal push from the label + cosigns
She’s probably one of the recent rises to stardom that doesn’t feel inorganic or forced. First heard her through her Isiah feature back on House is Burning and it was her first major moment and she had a good verse there. Sprinkle in a couple of features and co-signs from bigger TDE artist then her mini hit with Kodak in 2023 and here we are
what agenda exactly is being pushed with her? Why is it always some conspiracy when it
Involved black artist that get successful?
You know how many white pop stars literally show up and win tons of awards and do hella numbers and no one has this energy
There was literally a thread the other day of the same energy questioning Chappell Roan.
KTT2 also accused Billie and Olivia of being industry plants. F*** outta here with trying to bring race into this
it’s been amazing to watch her take the slow grind process, the album had its biggest streaming day despite being out since august
a lot of artists front load their marketing and give up on the album once it drops.
what you’re witnessing is the marketing dollars not being spent until AFTER the album and tour, meaning that when people are discovering her through performance shows or interviews or whatever it may be, they can go digest the whole album at once. meanwhile her core fans are already loving it so there’s a mix of fan word of mouth, new awareness from people that haven’t heard of her, and people who only slightly heard of her being made into fans
i notice that whenever marketing is done correctly, some people take it as inorganic. usually it’s a bad faith argument. but this is what happens when the label does its job right and has great strategy.
most smart indie artists i know adopt this strategy, after my album i put out 2 music videos, a short film, docu series, did a press run and self produced interview pieces. and that’s just phase 1. i saved almost all the content for after the album
is out though
it's not just people being defensive it's real actual musicians and artists that are telling yall this is how it goes with having marketing.
music one of the only things where people that don't know s*** about the profession claim they know more than folks that...actually do this s*** for a living.
and maybe all the "we've talked about insert artist being a plant" that's been going on itt is proof that hmm, maybe yall don't know what yall talkin bout when yall use that term?

Nuance: yall was wrong in both of those too. :)
KTT2 when it comes to who's just popping cause they make good music:
All I know is nothing will matter if all this marketing/push for Grammys and all the acclaim doesn't lead to her having a successful mainstream career.
I feel like with other TDE acts like Kendrick and even SZA, while yes, they were also marketed, they became successful mostly off the strength of their music and that happened pretty organically. There's a very clear and evident push happening with Doechii right now and while there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, people are simply pointing out that to them, it feels like she's being shoved down their throats (this is something they've said about other acts who got a similar sudden push by their labels).
While I've seen a lot of acclaim for her project, I haven't seen her music have any actual real motion yet so I guess that's what will really tell if all this online support is legit.

Hey, so I definitely read this earlier, the word plant isn’t even in my vocabulary, I don’t know what the f*** you’re talking about there, there was no reason to tag me here really
