Niggas lying bout their age, retiring themselves early, fans clowning artists for pushing 30... is this a thing in other genres? Was it always this way?

To put this into perspective, everything kanye dropped from Graduation onwards, he was older than 30. I think his last good album was Donda, and he was 44 for that.

Rock music always had this issue too historically; it’s natural that the music and culture of the youth is, you guessed it, tied to youth lol. The movie obsession’s second week triumph came from 74% audience made up of 18-34 year olds. like sherm said, most things are tied to age culturally

not only that, but consider the fact that it’s harder for people who are beyond teenage years to be as into newer music, generally. I read a study that most people listen to the same s*** they discovered at 14 for most of their lives, because it is the most formative time to experience and tie your identity to such things. this is why you have 50 year old punks wearing fugazi shirts and going to DRI & 7 seconds shows with patches on their crusty jackets still. it’s why Guns N’ Roses is selling out ballparks and arenas this year still. it’s why a lot of my most replayed songs still are from 2013-17 when I was discovering what real art was to me. it just makes sense in that perspective. keep in mind rap is extremely online right now and the audience of reels is usually exposed to artists through the audio on their short form content. 2slimey couldn’t exist without ig reels, ig reels couldn’t exist without the teenage audience of memes. things are cyclical in nature but the mainstay of youth is not caring about what the adults like, and what adults like nowadays is highly curated towards trying to be trendy and fit in with the youth online lol

competitive artform / “young man’s game” conflation w sports discourse, general gen z /alpha anxieties about aging~mortality, society at large reckoning with pervasive patriarchy-rape culture-age gap dynamics, rap being a relatively young genre that is now aging out of grace (re: mainstream popularity) so now it has both reinvent itself upon death + retroactively realize that its elderstatesmen are indeed capable of putting out great work (a la rock music)

Not really a thing in metal. I mean there's a degree that bands tend to be harsher/more adventurous earlier on in youth but there's not really a stigma against older metal musicians like there is in hip-hop

If my music taste stuck at 14 I'd be listening to nothing but Travis Scott Trippie Redd and Famous Dex subhanallah
