carti was literally hustling his music with a black-owned independent movement (awful) with creative one of a kind shows and internet following for 4 years only to attain a level of success and acclaim and then have yt kids on ktt2 say "hE nOt EvEn PuNk brO, hE proLLy lOoKs dOwN on the pOoR"
the biggest most influential/marquee punk bands of all time were signed to major labels and had corporate interests (the ramones, the clash, s***pistols). even the punk bands that weren’t on majors were on indie labels distributed through corporations like Sony and Warner
the DIY and “anti” values you’re propping up were always marketing tactics and counter-culture ploys to sell records to a different demographic. not saying carti is revolutionary or reinventing the wheel at all, but to say the young black dude in 2020 is a puppet for doing exactly what English white kids did in the 70s is hilarious

The DIY movement was not that at all. Please stop reading wikipedia.
Like 90% of rappers aesthetics don’t match their music these days.
