Wayne and Drake have better discogs. Keep in mind discography doesn’t only mean studio albums. It’s every single piece of music recorded by said artist. Features, mixtapes, singles, albums, whatever.
If we were going by studio albums only then DOOM and Kanye have Jay beat
Even with mixtapes or collab albums, I wouldn't say Drake has a better discog cause Drake doesn't have the highs that Jay achieved with Blueprint, RD, Black Album, AG, and 4:44.
His lows(Views, Scorpion, CLB) are on the same level as Hov's lows though(BP3, MCHG, KC).
ive always found it a bit strange to assess an artist’s entire discog tbh, i only really care about their peak material
peak JAY-Z is top 3 solidified imo
It’s not that I’ve gone out of my way to listen to them, I’ve listened to them as they were released so I’m giving my views. I understand you may only wanna go back to their peak material when you’re listening to an album all the way through but you’re missing out on gems if you only listen to the albums critics consider good

Drake is nowhere near unless you’re a massive drake fan boy

nah i mean from like an all time standpoint per se, i wouldn’t just listen to the critically acclaimed works of someone and then claim to be into them
i don’t think it’s fair to account for all of an artist’s releases away from their peak, because naturally most (if not all) artists eventually fall off and start putting out work that are leagues away from their previous material (this isn’t even getting into that some projects are released as throwaways, to get out of a contract etc. look at Nas’ Lost Tapes, and a large part of Prince’s latter material post-Love Symbol or so, posthumous releases) i also think that whole entire longevity metric is a tad overrated, because relevancy is oftentimes something that is completely out of an artist’s control too to a certain extent
i just personally think it makes more sense to take an artist at their absolute best, and then compare peaks across the board that way
If Drake made Vol 1 Drake sxn would either say"actually I was just playing it and Sunshine is lowkey aging nicely" or "well DIY your own tracklist and take out Sunshine and I Know What Girls Like it's easily a classic"

Yeah I get what you’re saying, but for some on here who may have only listened to one maybe two jay albums (maybe even songs) it gives some background as to their releases and which ones to check out. For instance, like I said in the OP, for some reason BP3 gets love on here. Imagine never listening to a Jay Z album then putting BP3 on and judging him from that one album you heard because someone on here recommended it. So what I’m doing is a delve into the artists whole solo studio album discography (and lost tapes type albums), and if an album is released to get out of contract or an ex label decided to put it together to cash in on the artist I’ll mention it

yeah nah you’re good i didn’t elaborate on what i meant on my previous post because i didn’t wanna derail your thread

i don't really follow this but interesting perspective

follow as in i don't evaluate discographies that way, but i read and understood your view on it lol
KC ranked above BP3 is that s*** i do like
but i will never understand the feelings on MCHG

oh idk, when i see all time list debates i often see X artist has a better discog than Y, X is therefore better and/or higher
i think it’s pretty stupid
i swear recently i saw some1 on here saying bp3 wasn’t that bad & i remember sitting there like what the f*** lol
truly 1 of the most disappointing rap albums ever like how u got ye, timbo, neptunes, swizz & no id & still drop a completely garbage album? it still baffles me how god awful that s*** is
welp didn’t take long 2 find people defending bp3
niggas deaf as hell yo
oh idk, when i see all time list debates i often see X artist has a better discog than Y, X is therefore better and/or higher

I get that maybe you should discount albums like lost tapes 2, Nasir or in scarfaces case the two rap-a-lot dropped when he left for Def jam. But you can’t gloss over trash artists released just because they weren’t inspired at the time (like BP3 or MCHG for instance). Bottom like if it’s within your control don’t drop trash

i think some artists can absolutely have records or songs so gargantuan that they overshadow the lowest lows of their catalog, but it all still was recorded and released lol so as long as i've listened to it i'm gonna count it in the discussion personally. i feel you on your side tho
BP3 hate is weird
It’s his Graduation. It’s an amazing mainstream album
Bro it’s trash
artists aren't going to act like their lows completely don't exist so why would i? they still put their heart and effort into it (despite what we think) is how i feel.
