Maybe they did use those skills prior

we don't exactly get their history.

you kinda do but it’s a through a reference only ppl in Korea would understand

I feel like every “scheme” in a movie relies on a bit of plot contrivance to work, that’s part of the fun

I mean look at the ocean’s movies, the convoluted plans are a source of entertainment, part of the fun. How much scrutiny is it supposed to hold up under?

I guess I just expect more from a movie with damn near perfect/flawless reviews. We can’t really compare to Oceans because those movies aren’t nearly as acclaimed as Parasite is. I get what you saying tho

How is that unrealistic though? The perfect opportunity presented itself and they took advantage. It makes perfect sense. People don't put effort and energy in low wage work because of the rewards. People will put effort and energy in things that produce outcomes they deem beneficial.

Also, you say why weren't they doing scams prior? That can be a commentary on how $$$ corrupts the soul or pushes people to do things they would otherwise never think of doing.

It’s unrealistic when they couldn’t even talk they way into getting full pay from some dim-witt pizza girl lol Yet at the snap of a finger they can all sudden manipulate they way into the rich family’s house?

The more realistic approach is if they talked they way into getting full pay from the pizza lady to showcase they do have those sorts skills when it comes to talking

like that movie pain and gain?? That s***s based on a true story

I had to Google how much of it was true and surprisingly it's quite a bit. They had to add A list actors and obvs there gonna insert there own flair too it, but I would never believe any of that s***.

I could be wrong cus I haven’t seen the movie in a long time but wasn’t those schemes more realistic in that movie?

You're still disregarding the fact that I said people don't put energy and time into low wage work. The movie specifically highlighted that point by them clearly not giving that much of a f*** about some damn pizza boxes. It also seems like you're assuming the poor family is "dumb" or "stupid" because they couldn't convince the pizza girl. Like I said previously, they didn't put any effort into that meaningless situation. The movie is intentionally highlighting the fact they were a family that was pretty content with their standard of living until they had a chance at living and maintaining a significantly higher standard of living. That is when their outlook and motivation changed.

How is it a meaningless situation when we are meant to believe this family is so poor and desperate for money? Anyone truly financially struggling wouldn’t just see “not getting full pay” as meaningless when every dollar counts.

To me it didn’t come across as them being “content”....maybe I viewed it wrong.

Not really unless youre trying to go to prison and f*** your life up. Theres no f***ing way a sane person could ever concoct those schemes I couldn't make s*** like that up if I tried.

Because they weren't that desperate for money. The father displays no emotion to his house being fumigated and was lazily laying on the ground not worried about the phones or wifi being shut off. He ate molded bread and flicked a water bug off the table like it was a normal occurrence. The son was even hesitant to accept the high paying tutor job. There was no information presented giving us the impression that the family was as desperate as you are talking about.

It was that far fetched? I just remember them scheming him out his property.

Hell you have shady bail bondsmen IRL who do that a lot, have people put they house down as collateral then re-arrest the inmate so they end up forfeiting their bail and collateral.

i think its goofiness works for it. the movie doesn't feel like its trying to be super grounded/plausible

the whole thing feels like a tall tale or like an urban legend almost

I mean it does feel very grounded in reality, but it's def not trying to be "realistic" either.

    it's like exaggerated realism?

Okay and how many of those shady bondsmen kidnap and torture people they train to accomplish that? And how many of them have a impotent bodybuilder on payroll? Did you see how they botched the guys murder?

    That s*** happened for reals

And you know trying to scam someone who can't afford to pay there bail is worlds apart from kidnapping a multimillionaire and trying to get them to sign over there assets getting away with it and then doing it again
