hard to feel bad for her when she can retire today and be financially prosperous for the rest of her life
Most artists are poor outside of label funding. aside from that she may/may not be a slave to her contract. Smith that’s the case she couldn’t retire if she wanted to
hasn't really had a proper break. if i remember correctly she's been dropping a new album every 18 months or so. there's not much turnaround there
already has 3 studio albums since her first 3.5 years ago
What break does the regular working man get?
From your perspective..
Actually no. The majority of the planet would agree with.
Most people unfortunately are employees doing things they do not love to meet their basic needs. Doja job while I’m sure it has mundane annoying parts is exploring a craft she loves and has found high levels of success. Not many people have that luxury. If she doesn’t like it she can stop making music - no one is forcing her to make music. Her statement while it’s her reality is out of touch from the reality for the person who is forced to work a dead end job or the starving artist who is dying for an opportunity to be put on.
What do you do for a living?
The funny thing is judging by how a good….95% of yall post on this forum (let alone this thread) yall would have a mental breakdown going through just a week of what the average “superstar” gotta go through lol.
I know because it’s Doja Cat no one gonna feel sorry for her and I get that, but it’s mad artists that feel just like her.
Amy Winehouse, DMX, Phyllis Hyman, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Kurt Cobain, and more were making money for generations and still were miserable to the point of partaking in self destructive behavior.
I could see a future where artists/musicians are allowed to take more mental breaks, or tours to not be as massive or long-winded as they currently are. Even for the average musician that goes on these tours, that s*** is fatiguing and exhausting.
Tl;dr: Everyone can’t be Beyonce. Nor should they.
I would argue those artist you named had mental problems before becoming successful musicians. Music is often a outlet for these people as evident by their subject matter which touches on addiction and mental health. Could it have added to and caused pressure - of course. But to solely lay the blame on the music industry as the root cause for their pain is false.
For people like DMX his problems started way before music. One could argue that music saved his life. Where would DMX be without music, he was a homeless, d*** addict who robbed people for a living. He potentially would have died a long time before or been in jail.
If you are an artist who does not want the spotlight and does not want to deal with the pressure brought on by being a public figure you can release your music without doing all the internet antics. Granted your music may have less impact but then again should you care about success and impact if you only care about the art.
Ps. Every job has pressure if u can’t handle the pressure, quit and don’t b**** and complain. Especially if you’re making millions and can retire at any minute. People got their own problems.
What is she crying about? If you want to just play video games and make music then do that
Nobody gives a s*** about your photo shoots anyway
Just make music, record a couple music videos and stop whining about being one of the most successful and in demand female artists out rn

Except she’s in an era where she literally could just stream eating snacks and playing video games and at this point (who knows why lmao) still be relevant and have millions of fans/make six-seven figures or more a year just because she’s attractive, “quirky” lmao, and certain niggas is into watching girls to regular s*** on streams. I believe she Lowkey already does this
Outside of finishing out whatever contractual obligations she’s locked into, quite literally she’s in the best position (vs all the other people u mentioned from the past) to stop all the mainstream s*** and just drop her own songs and stream and talk directly to her fans if she even still wants to make music for a living
You can’t expect people to have sympathy for “I’m tired of being creative for a living and taking half naked pictures and getting paid millions of dollars a year for doing so” after a pandemic that people still haven’t really recovered from all the way. On top of all the “just do OF” energy she gon get just because she’s attractive and could probably show bikini pics and feet (I.e. not have to do no “extreme” or degrading s***) and still make 7 figures a year. People is f***ed up out here and shawty talking about wah wah I don’t wanna do photoshoots. UPS is hiring my nigga lol
the part you think is exciting can be a source of a lot of stress and be detrimental to your physical and mental health. and what she's telling you with that speech is that people only see like 20% of what her career actually is, and the rest is stuff that she didn't come up really loving to do. she just does if to fulfill obligations. not saying youre wrong but just try to see her point of view. i remember Halsey told a story once that she had a miscarriage live on stage and had to quickly change clothes and keep performing. the life of a musician gives very little consistency or stability even when you're on top
Halsey story seems stupid cuz she said she had a choice , still f***ed up regardless

Wasting your time. @insertcoolnamehere can never let women just be wrong

I agree with you that fame is harder than most people would ever know and that money doesn't fix things, but I think it's more complicated than that in reality. I don't think anyone (besides users on here just trolling basically) thinks artists aren't entitled to mental health breaks or having actual issues. I think the problem is that it's not like she's a random girl who blew up overnight and has to deal with newfound fame, or someone like Cobain who legit did not want to be famous; she literally signed up and explicitly wanted to be famous and is now dealing with the consequences of those choices. I don't think this means it exempts her from like you know being able to vent or having issues/hardships, it could just be a huge mistake she made as a teen she's now coming to grips with, but i think it's understandable that a lot of people act more skeptical when instead of the context being like "i made a mistake and i should have done something else and shouldn't have tried to be famous" the context is like "man i wish i just didnt have to work", which obviously people resent because to most people shes living the dream of hundreds of thousands of others (and also i agree with you lots of people hate her online just for being a woman and would take her complaints more seriously if this was a male superstar like the weeknd saying it), but even if its only because they don't understand what she's actually signed up for. I do feel bad for her especially for as much s*** as she gets online for stupid s*** she did clearly as an impressionable teenager, but at the same time it's harder to accept "woe is me" discourse when the complaints come down to the exact same worries and burnout that all workers from all economic classes in general face and go through, much less when they're saying they wish they didn't have to work (which is only achievable in modern society through basically being either old, lucky, or a celebrity to begin with) vs that they just don't like their work specifically.
sorry 4 wall of text but this s*** gets to me knowing someone who killed themselves from career burnout
yea she's reached a certain level in the industry where she shouldn't have to "play the game" anymore. label got her doing all this extra, she probably just wants to focus on making music and performing.
This is what happens when you sign to a major label, they keep in these slave deals man.
It’s hard to feel bad for her when she isn’t saying that it’s the music industry specifically but rather that she doesn’t want to work at all and wants to be a 4chan NEET all day. I think she gets way too much s*** in general otherwise but celebrities being overly anti-work is something that will always rub me the wrong way
This is also kinda true lmao
