When an enemy is scanning the player and the player immediately takes damage. Kinda like laser tag
Bullets in video games are just hitscan animations
In Doom, demons fire projectiles that you can dodge. In other games you have to take cover cause hitscan is impossible to dodge
Cultists in Blood are the best fps enemies oat though. And they're the cheesiest of hitscanners.

I still have to play this and the original Shadow Warrior
Are they cheesier than the chaingunners in Doom 2 ?

I like the doom games, they're classics. But shadow warrior '97 and especially Blood are next level tbh.
I'd say Blood in general is harder especially in the higher difficulties but the game gives you alot to work with plus weird quirks like crouching lowers Cultists hit scan rate

Need this on console since I can't use my PC at the moment.
Duke 3d was the only build engine game I've played so far and it was really fun
Might sound ignorant, but Doom Eternal is my first ever Doom game.
LOVE it, but I was curious, wasn’t Doom originally more of a Horror series more like some Dead Space style presentation?
Or was it always this “corny”, (in a good way!) over the top, Heavy Metal action movie style game?

Mostly always been a "heavy action trope" game in the 90s. Doom 3, which came out in 2004, was a more survival horror reimagining of the series.
