I would not mind at all for goku and vegeta taking the back seat for some light hearted (but epic) trunks & goten adventures

I’ve said for a while they could easily run two series at once even. Keep Goku/Vegeta for a main series with the epic big time boss stuff and have a series running alongside of Goten/Trunks exploring other universes or something

Honestly given how Goten and Trunks as kids were able to put pressure on Android 18 at SSJ1, Adult Gotenks or even GT Gohan (he kept training according to the GT Perfect Files) or Vegeta should've been enough to defeat Super 17.
Super 17 definitely shouldn't have been anything above Super Buu level if both 17s are at the level he was when he fought Piccolo.

They should break the cast up into 2 main Z teams:

The Universal/Mutliversal threats could be Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, 17, Buu, and Frieza (as an anti-hero), occasionally Broly, Hit, Jiren, etc.

The Light Universal/Solar System and below threats could be Gohan, Goten, Trunks, Roshi, Yamcha, Tien, Krillin and 18. Maybe cameos from Cabba, Caulifla, Kale, etc.

As for your “two teams” idea that wouldn’t be bad. You could easily crossover when needed or just have characters make an appearance occasionally in both. But I really think it could work, fans would 100% watch a “side show” of Goten & Trunks leading the way. Hell once they get the balls to actually age them could include Pan & Uub in the mix.

That's kind of what they're doing now though. Krillin, Tien, Yamcha, Piccolo, Gohan, Roshi, 18, and 17 have been fighting the underlings while Goku and Vegeta will fight Moro.

It was even like that in the tournament of power. Goku and Vegeta fought the strongest of the universe while the others fought the 3-7 tier enemies of the universe.

Honestly unless Toriyama give the ok y'all have to give up on Goten and Trunks. They were never created the be serious characters and was always made to be comic relief to tone down Z seriousness. That's one thing both GT and Super have in common they kept them consistent. Except GT made Trunks a main character and didn't do s*** with his character. I think that's where people may have gotten that dream and disappointment from. People expect that change in super but Toyo and Toei kept them consistent with Z.

I think Scott means actually giving them real shine, not that fake s*** they got in Tournament of Power or RoF for beating up minions.

Nobody asking for Goten or Trunks to take over the whole series 😂 just be logical and make them do something, they did plenty in Buu.

No I'm talking about in the manga they're actually all getting they're own shine. Not beating up fodder enemies. The current arc has given each character they're own little chapter fight against a Moro underling. They're all light/solar system baddies while Moro is the universal big bad.

They are being logical. Toriyama never intended them to even be logical. They're light hearted comic relief characters. Always have been. Vs Buu it was all comedy relief. Go read the manga, nothing about they're fight with Super Buu was serious. So unless you guys are ready for a DB comedy only series. Trunks and Goten won't ever be anything but unless Toriyama gives the ok for it like with DB Heroes.

Like come on Gotenks has an attack call super Buu Buu volley ball attack where he wanted Piccolo to play volleyball with him and whoever drops the ball explodes lol. The super ghost kazikame attack has goofy ghost that make faces and don't listen it's literally a game of Tag lol. All their attacks are basically children games lol. They're comedy relief.

I can go even more recent. In the anime version of the RoF arc Gotenks appear to lighten up the mood after the arc was about to get dark. I can't remember if it was before or after Piccolo was killed.

ToP of power guys were also supposedly strong 🤷🏼‍♂️ At the end of the day it’s still just time to kill until Goku & Vegeta show up for main guy.

And again nobody asking for Goten & Trunks to be serious like Goku & Vegeta, but they could do something, anything, other than just be as relevant as Bulma & Chi-Chi lol.

They are literally loved by fans BECAUSE of what you describing in Buu arc lol.

They never was meant to be relevant. That's why Goten has never gotten his own attacks or personality. They never even really got a training arc like Gohan. They're merely comedic relief. They just so happen to get fans that are like shippers in Naruto. They expect more of characters that never was ever made to be anything else.

Uh no people want Goten and Trunks to become how Gohan was and become serious characters to the series. Even on old KTT you can go through the thread and see how people was upset Goten didn't get any growth. They were even upset they didn't really age much. That's completely different from how they were in the Buu saga where they was just comedic relief how they were portrayed in Super. If you believe otherwise than you really have been looking at the wrong fandom.

I mean Toriyama had Gotenks calling himself the Mack daddy of Justice or how he had Gotenks get the former demon king Piccolo to scream into the void like a child the way Buu did. If people didn't see there they were comedy relief than I don't know what else.

The Super Anime gave Future Trunks a big moment in killing Merged Zamasu (that Vegito failed to do), Gohan/17/Frieza all stood up to God Tier opponents, even Roshi had extremely impressive moments. Not to mention Kefla, Hit, Jiren, Toppo, Cabba, etc. all having moments also.

The Super Manga has been giving other characters shine ever since TOP. Gohan beat Kefla, Master Roshi was used to show how Goku could access UI, Frieza and 17 were still integral in defeating Jiren, and the entire Z cast except Goten and Trunks is getting Shine in the Moro arc.

You cant say Super is just as bad as GT when Yamcha looks more impressive in the last chapter than Gohan, Goten, Trunks, Piccolo, Majuub, etc. looked past the Baby arc lol

I don’t read the manga only watched the anime. Up until TOP and even then it’s just a lesser extent; Super was the Goku & Vegeta show. Idk how you can argue against that
