The beats he’s rapping over are highly unconventional (for the most part, before you bring up a song like Purple Hearts), the things he’s rapping about are highly unconventional (things like transgender people and molestation in his community), and the structure of the album being a therapy session instead of a playlist like most albums nowadays. Not to mention one of the songs paying homage to one of the darkest songs in hip-hop history.
Yes this is a new territory for drake in terms of making a full on, focused dance album. He hasn’t done that before, but it’s a sound he’s done and done well in the past. He just honed in on it which is dope, the album is incredible. However it’s not experimental at all, and not really experimental in the same way an album like MMBS is.
I’m just being a d***head
some of it is definitely more out of the box for Kendrick
Yeah you also call people f@ggots when you disagree with them so idk why I wasted time w you lol
I’ve had my issues with Drake projects in the past and I tend to like Kendrick more but I’m not deaf 😂 people get so caught up in there alliances and biases that they litterally go deaf to the actual music. Like… we can’t possibly be hearing the same s*** 😂
I wasn’t feeling CLB. I really personally did feel like that s*** was good quality Drake music but I found it boring because of the lack of innovation imo but this s***? How can you not respect the man’s artistry on here?
Like Drake would ever do that. He said a long time ago who he makes music for and it was not for dweebs.
Not even that, I’m just stunned this man can’t even enjoy anything that isn’t war conscious. Dude must be really in the trenches eating Spam and drinking pond water out a canteen

So basically if it's weird and s***ty and boring it's good

I didn’t say it was good. I think I’ve listened to that album maybe twice since it dropped
You guys really have to relax before this album is called overrated.
Ain’t no stopping the haters bruh bruh may as well show love freely

Lmao

Experimental doesn’t mean good either
But yeah it’s a great album that prob won’t get tons of replay simply because of how experimental it is although there’s a good handful of tracks that are down to earth

This is just kendrick exploring new ground topically/lyrically
Doesnt make it experimental imo
very good album tho!

“ Not to mention one of the songs paying homage to one of the darkest songs in hip-hop history.” is this in reference to WCT?
One thing that gets ignored often in this house origins convo is that a bunch of the disco producers and songwriters were European guys, like Giorgio Moroder working with Donna Summers. The Europeans definitely elevated electronic music (I mean it started there) and this help create disco, which existed in Europe at the same time as it existed in the USA. European and American disco had some sonic differences though, with Europeans preferring lush strings and harmonies and Americans putting more emphasis on rhythms.
The black americans gave it the unique twist of soul singing and rich instrumentation which brought disco to a different level, but even late disco began to blur into electronic music.
Post-disco music (extremely underrated genre that a lot of people don't seem to know about) like early Luther Vandross (Changes), BB&Q Band, SOS Band usually had Italian producers and songwriters. There was a bunch of back and forth between Europe and (black) America in creating this stuff.
Post-disco and house had a lot of overlap. House and techno spread to Europe pretty quickly and the scenes influenced each other. After the mid 90s or so house's popularity in the USA declined and a lot of the house artists actually found more success in Europe. For example Romanthony (vocal house) or Todd Edwards (garage house).
House became the dominant sound of the late 90s in Europe up and stayed a staple until today.
The American mainstream didn't vibe with house anymore and their primary electronic revivals consisted of EDM/electronic trap and brostep (think early 2010s rave music) as well as an ongoing synthpop revival since the late 2000s. The USA never really had a full on house revival but their scene is prolific since the 2010s because of the internet's ability to keep genres alive even without radioplay or club rotations

Nothing Kendrick did was experimental, I'd say what kanye did on some beats on donda 2 are experimental

Then what the hell is “experimental” because clearly I’m confused

Yes
I'm confused. KTT only people giving me hope to keep trying to like it.
I mean u don't have to try maybe come back to it later
