Do you remember the billboards with quotes during the CLB rollout?

Really feels like they were meant for this project

That writer seems upset he didn't get the usual Drake but he would have torn yet another rap Drake album. Drake will never win with critics ever again. I've long accepted it.

The funniest s*** I feel like critics who like rnb Drake review rap heavy Drake projects and critics who like rap Drake review singing heavy Drake projects 😂

Doubt that considering the fact that he hasn't started working on this album yet.

Stop the cap Ye never sounded half as good as this as a singer

Ye be screaming through the autotune and intentionally triggering it at high retune speeds which is dope in some applications but over all Drake is far superior when it comes to using it how it was actually intended to be used

You hear “monotone” I hear control and mastery

Cope but you're a terrible poster anyway

So this how we feel KTT? Kanye a better autotune singer than Drake now?

Kanye has always been a much more expressive and versatile vocalist than Drake (both singing and rapping), but Drake has a much smoother and more accessible tone/delivery than Ye

Singing off-key and letting autotune run wild at high retune speeds = expressive

Singing on-key and just having autotune present to clean up minor pitch issues = accessible

    Got it

Kanye has definitely improved a lot as a singer. He seems to have a better understanding of his range these days.

I feel like Drake used to have better control of his singing tbh. more recently, it seems like he is often trying to push the limits of his range and delivery and it ends up not sounding very good. Historically, Drake is def the better singer tho, that can't be denied.

People say the same thing about Bob Dylan but his vocals pack so much emotion and rawness which just resonates with a lot of people.

Lmao that’s not what I’m saying at all

Drake’s range is much more limited than Kanye’s. When he tries to push his voice into higher octaves it can sound very strained at times (his falsetto isn’t the strongest on some songs on HN), and when he tries to go lower it can sound very weak and thin. He normally rides that nice middle area, which works for him, but is also why he gets the “monotone” criticism sometimes.

Kanye, on the other hand, can stretch his voice both low (Love Lockdown) and high (Say You Will) without it sounding forced or awkward, and he can do it with a lot of emotion in his delivery. He can do this with a lot of autotune (Blood on the Leaves) or without it so present in the mix (Come to Life).

If Drake tried to deliver vocal performances like Blood on the Leaves or Come to Life (with or without heavy autotune settings), it would end up sounding very forced, strained, and thin, but on the other hand, if Kanye tried to deliver smoother vocal performances like HOWGH or Passionfruit, it would end up sounding very awkward and not service the track very well.

A great example of their differences singing wise is Glow. When Drake tries to sing the main line in that upper octave, he sounds a little strained and like he’s really pushing to reach it, but Kanye’s delivery of it (while not perfect) sounds much more natural. But then, when Drake brings the melody back down to his usual range, it sounds much sweeter and more comfortable for him.

They’re both great at the lanes they operate in singing-wise, but they do both have very different approaches when it comes to singing (and just vocal deliveries in general; Kanye’s is more rough, expressive, & eccentric, and Drake’s is more smooth, controlled, & deliberate).

Like someone else ITT said earlier, Drake’s approach to singing seems to be creating melodies and vocal lines that the majority of people can easily sing along to, whereas Kanye’s approach seems to be figuring out ways to add the most emotion to a song.
