the thing is though, your asking for this to be done solely because of what drake is doing
its not like were hearing how every x,y,z new rapper is getting diamond plaques (unelss its a legit real smash hit that deserves it like XO Tour Life for uzi i think is diamond and deserves it)
we aint in here like f*** man lil durk just got his 3rd diamond single
for reference, how many streaming era artists do you see in the top 15 best selling SINGLES artists according to RIAA (updated as of October 20, 2023, before drake updated his stats to 200+mil):

Why you ain’t including the word digital?
i mean post legit had back-to-back-back-to-back-back-to-back smash hits on smash hits
should he not deserve it? he was a singles artists for years dropping absolute smashes as a lead artist and as a feature
his songs were everywhere you went to the point you began to hate his s*** cus u were always hearing it
Idk, it’s not so much a “he doesn’t deserve it” thing, it’s just a clear representation for me that the streaming system is flawed. The guy hasn’t even been making music for 10 years lmao
Why you ain’t including the word digital?
theres only 2 lists for the RIAA as far as i know, one is for album units and one is for singles which is that list
unless you can find another one, this is the list that the OP tweet is referring to (drake updated his 2 days ago so thats why hes 200+mil now, the list is dated for oct 20, 2023)
Streaming is calculated by listens/views. If that was the case towards physicals before streaming era, artists like MJ and Beatles would have 1000x more listens than Drake
Little math if you can keep up, 1500 steams equals = 1 sell
For All the dogs being played for 24hrs straight = 16 streams
If cars still came with CD and cassette tape players in them headass

You do realize major artists have millions upon millions of fans right?

this issue that I havent seen you mention is that there used to be a rule back in the day i dont know when they changed it (maybe 2010's or late 2000's not sure), but prior to the change, if a song was not pushed as an official "single" and sent to radio and sold as a single (CD/Cassette or digital download), then it could not chart on the hot 100 and would not accumulate "single" sales
this is why if you look at absolutely massive rap albums back then like MMLP and Eminem Show, only a few songs off each album actually "charted" on the hot 100 cus those were official singles
so if back then every song could chart off an album like we have now, then for sure those massive album artists would have a lot more "singles" sales which is true
but at the end of the day, these billboard rules been changing constantly since day 1
you think cassette tape artists from the 80's/90's didnt cry when cd's came a thing and then cd artists didnt cry when itunes downloads became a thing, its just the next technological advancements and billboard is simply trying to keep up with as much unbiased rules as possible but it will never suffice unfortunately
Oh look the fat f*** Indian who cosplays as a black man on a Kanye west fan forum is saying something stupid yet again
You really are a dumbass 😂😂
also we gotta realize that with streaming, back-catalogues become extremely important for consistent streams
back then if you discovered an artist, s*** you think you gonna splurge $200 in 2002 money (which is prob worth like $500+ today) on 10 different cd's and s***? nah you gonna cop the newest s***, prob even just cop the "best hits" cd for $20 and keep it moving
now with $10 i can stream every mf back-catalogue all i want
drake would probably have close to 300M sales if he certified all of his singles today, the vast majority of his singles haven’t been certified since 2018 which is hilarious
You do realize major artists have millions upon millions of fans right?
Do YOU realize it? You are the one in here bringing up artist from the 80s as if Drake doesn’t have millions of fans also comparing him to artist that aren’t hip hop

Personally I don’t see the issue with that rule. If a song isn’t released/pushed as a single, it shouldn’t be counted on a chart that tracks singles
Which is why we have another dilemma with streaming because when these major artists drop a new album and the entire album charts on the Hot 100, now the artist has an additional 10-15 Hot 100 “hits”, when in reality 80-90% of those songs freefall off the chart within two weeks.
And sure there’s always been rule changes and updates, but the streaming era is the first era where repeat plays of songs/albums are being converted into brand new additional sales. That just doesn’t make any sense to me, at least not forever

It’s a great system for consumers as well as the artists (not financially but that’s a separate convo), I’m just saying the way that Billboard & RIAA tracks and counts these streams to sales units is flawed and needs to be updated at some point
If anything the nigga was selling more before streaming
Not like Eminem, Lil Wayne and 50 Cent, 2pac, etc
Do YOU realize it? You are the one in here bringing up artist from the 80s as if Drake doesn’t have millions of fans also comparing him to artist that aren’t hip hop
Literally what are you even saying
Nothing you just said has anything to do with anything I’ve said ITT

Also wanted to add that billboard at one point had to change the rule of mass buying physicals because of record companies purchasing mass quantities and giving them out at in stores etc to boost popularity. The rule change included one receipt pure purchase to count at places like Best Buy. I remember Cole fans being mad at Drake for not having them ring up all those CDs separately so they would count. And a tale as old as time is paying radio to play Artist singles etc

So if you’re okay with Billboard only allowing one receipt/purchase per person to count, how are you also okay with neverending sales from anyone via streaming?

My original comment was to someone else, you replied to me so I thought it was you. I don’t know why you’re here telling me other artist have millions of fans as if Drake doesn’t

Because sure when you break down the sales to streams figure it seems like an astronomical amount of streams to count for one sale.
But when you realize these artists have millions of fans listening to their music almost every single day, the 1500 streams to 1 sale unit starts to make a lot more sense

Based on your logic, Artist with millions of fans in the 80s, sold millions of units first week

Why you trying to discredit Drake when he sold 600k+ with NWTS pre streaming
