Kanye is experimental. Drake is not.

to the detriment of song quality

    bad trade off imo

Any album with a different sound than the artists previous work should be seen as them experimenting with a new sound.

i think thats too vague and you could reduce any album to experimental. i mean justin bieber switched it up on his 2nd album but i wouldnt personally call that experimenting

Bruh included elements of classic, art rock, soul, traditional hip hop, all into one album and mastered the art of maximalist production. Stop it

I’d say it is when no other rapper has really made an album like that. We can also go deeper and talk about how Kanye has experimented with stage design and visuals like no rapper before him has.

    MBDTF was prog-rap tbh

if anything he's getting much too much credit

As far as the rock influence goes, onyx was doing that 20 years earlier.

I disagree tho anyway. Majority of that album was pretty standard hip hop production.

"experimental" is such a subjective term. i would say the sounds he's embraced in his music is definitely experimental when you look at where he started with. especially tapes like more life and wattba. to travel through so many different scapes and still remain on top is special

Drake doesn’t have his hands in production like Kanye does, so it’s not even a fair comparison to begin with.

Post MBDTF - now is peak experimental Ye, but a lot of those albums suck really bad (JIK, Ye) or are boring (TLOP)

808s was out there but it doesn't exist with out Timbo's sound, JT's sound, Tpain's sound and Cudi's sound so how much credit can we really give to Kanye

I can't think of any other song that came before Runaway where Ye or anybody else did what he's done with it.

From the way that the whole song builds on those sparse piano notes all the way to the crying vocoder solo. Not to mention that the subject matter was cutting edge too.

Why do Kanye stabs always pullup to this section? I know ye section is always dead but jeeez

  • Dec 5, 2019
