drake drops anything and the world stops to sit and listen

merely getting on a random artist’s song is enough for them to propel upwards in such a manner that they see immediate success just off the strength of drake co-signing them

everything he does is well received and is thought to be meticulously calculated

    ie: billboards to announce features

corny if another artist does it

    genius when drake does

shaves a heart in his head, a bunch of people start doing the same thing

drops an album with pregnant emoji women as the album cover, multi million dollar businesses replicate the same thing because they know that if drake does it, it’s considered cool and tapped in

make a song named “way 2 sexy” with him galavanting around in costumes that anyone else would get absolutely flamed for and graciously make the record go number one and video gather millions of hits instantly

this is what is considered cool. if that’s not, idk what is bud

all super valid and I agree it points to him being the most successful rapper alive. When I think cool, it doesn't always equate most popular though. This isn't a black and white definition.

If you equate success with how to define when its an artist era totally fair

but i def won't agree to the idea that drake sets the stage for what's cool or exciting anymore lol

edit: which maybe points to a better definition. Is it your era when you have a healthy balance between being exciting, cool, successful, etc.

either way my point was that charlamagne wasn't totally wrong in say were moving away from it

“Coolness is an aesthetic of attitude, behavior, comportment, appearance and style which is generally admired.”

    kinda checks all the boxes

Again I think this bounces back to how people define cool

I know entire subgroups that find his behavior appearance and style

    • basic
    • boring
    • played out
    • corny

Alright I'm out because I feel bad cause I like drake! I just don't think he's the most cool and exciting thing out at this point any more from an objective point of view

  • Sep 14, 2021

As far as the drake era

    we in the golden ages

don’t really want to delve too deep into this cause it can go on forever but language is an explanatory tool used us to describe things

so if we agree with that premise then we as a society dictate what we consider to be “cool” and if a wider range of people deem this artist to be seen as “cool” then being that this is a subjective term, you and your small group of friends are definitely in the minority here

im sure I can find a group that disagrees on the notion of us being of the human species. doesn’t grant any validity at all lmao

    but I digress

    tldr
    drake is the goat

presumptuous to think that I was referring to my personal friends or that I exist in some sort of small niche community but I agree and think your opinion def valid

    in totality

this subset of people are insignificantly minute when you compare to how many people love this guy

    is what i’m saying

and i deff get your point as well

but there is always a subgroup for anyone that becomes the most popular filled with people that dislike them. Sports, music, film. Any industry where celebrity status is involved . An era is never defined by those minority people. Its defined by stats and the majorities opinion

Drake features aren’t putting artists on anymore… that’s proof alone he doesn’t have nearly the same cultural hold he did. Not sure why y’all are using billboard accolades as an argument. You’re literally proving what Charlamagne said. He said radio hasn’t caught up yet, and neither have the DSPs. It wasn’t like he said some OD crazy s***. He has a legit argument here.

yeah I think that's where this took a detour on accident. When I think cool I think about what's happening on the fringes. Who's doing something new, who's challenging pre-existing structures, etc (something drake once did and like most other top artists occasionally still does)

Nothing in that screenshot disproved anything I said. We know any Drake appearance on a song is doing numbers. I said he isn’t putting new artists on. Nobody cares an ounce about these new artists he might collab with past the playlist placement listen of their collab.

Nobody is out here really checking for blocboy, drakeo, Sosa, bleu, Makonnen, smiley, etc. At all. Before or after a drake feature. That was my point.

drake gave project pat a top 5 hit in 2021 and in terms of new artist he just put tems and yebba on

    your point is s***

whether or not they run with the opportunity is absolutely irrelevant cause that’s not a reflection of Drake

    it’s a reflection of them.

These people you mentioned didn’t have an ounce of relevancy prior to Drake hopping on their tracks

If they are capable, and smart enough they will use the momentum (which they are SIGNIFICANTLY less likely to achieve) that Drake tosses them to run with it

in the same way Abel, Lil Baby, Rocky, and even more recently Yung Bleu did

so to your point (which idk if you saw earlier in my post, is s***) Drake stimulus package is absolutely still undeniable.
