Imagine crying in court documents that a song made you feel "unsafe" and then go around wearing a hoodie with bullet holes steaming out of it on stage
unserious guy
It's okay to be wrong man
The thing is I'm not.
I'm over it after this.
But Again, if you think a MV, and a clean edit in 2025 = I'm trying to make a smash hit on the radio, I got nothin for that gang.
That happens ALL THE TIME, especially in a climate where MV's are cheaper than ever to make. Budgets used to be what determined what a single was, but MV's are cheap to make, so they don't determine anything.
Even if you think Family Matters was made with the intention to be a smash radio single, a Music Video and a clean edit does not suggest that at all.
That's like saying when Drake dropped when to say when that he was trying to land a smash with that.

wop wop wop
But there was a video for it at the time of release AND there's a clean version of it now
Why is there a clean version of 5am available? Quick let me know
S*** dropped six years later you cannot be serious
clean versions of the care package probably have more than just one use but one of them is still radio
radio is not just a top 40 playlist lol Hot97 would definitely throw a minute of 5am in a mix if the particular DJ wanted to lean it toward rapping. Like if Funk flex didnt have his little beef with Drake, 5am is absolutely a song he’d throw on in between A Tale of 2 Citiez and Ignorant S***
Servicing a song to radio in 2025 does not mean that the intended purpose of a song is for it to be a hit. That's the thing.
Every song that comes out has a clean version because they're serviced to DSP's among other mediums and as an artist, you want as many ppl to hear your songs as possible.
That don't mean every song I make I'm tryna make a smash.
There's too many songs that have MV's for one to jump to the conclusion of MV = Smash single.

There's a clean version for every song on $$$
What does that mean?
Is he trying to make smash hits for all of them? Quick answer
When to say when dropped with a video. Smash single? Quick answer
They should have just done the fade that Drake challenged him to and sold it for ppv and shook hands so some of yall could have lived a happier life for the last year

I agree with this, I was actually just about to type something up saying the same. I think Drake having clean versions of most of his work is just standard procedure.
BUT, I also think he wanted Family Matters to get a lot of play on radio. I think both things are true
I dont think having a clean version = wanting radio play
but in this specific case he definitely wanted Family Matters on the radio

Yeah you're making my point.
It's 100000% standard procedure because, as an artist, you want EVERY song you make and upload onto DSPs, to get as much of a chance of being a hit as possible.
That's not even close to the same as saying "This song was supposed to be a hit because there's a clean version to it" I swear to god if you go back a few pages that was how this whole s*** started lol
I don't deny that drake wanted the record on the radio either. I'm in a rap beef and I want this song to go viral. Here's the MV to help with that. But that also doesn't mean he made family matters to be a smash hit.
Just listen to back to back, or Nokia. If you listen to Push Ups, it sounds exactly like the Nuke they're trying to describe
I was looking for clean music to play once and was flabbergasted Astroworld doesn’t have a clean version
every little child’s fav album
Colouring Book doesn’t either

Yeah im like 80% agreeing with you
I think I only diverge in that I do think he thought that first part of family matters was an actual back to back type smash. shake that ass for drake shale that ass for free/ weeknd serenade reek of the desire for club sing-alongs
It definitely does lol

Album vs. single, you’re killing it with the bad comparisons bro!

Coloring Book still so trash
Juke Jam the only song worth listening to

Agree to disagree then
Because IMO, he could have just dropped video and song for the first part if he wanted that as the nuke.
But the video is for the entire record and while radio and other mediums cut songs all the time, relying on DJ's to only play that first part seems like a gross miscalculation, if that was what he was angling for

that and No Problem were exactly the clean songs I was looking for lol

You are moving goalposts like a muthafucka 😂
Let me ask you clearly
Do clean versions and / or a MV = Smash single? Yes or no. Simple question.
Because the point that's being made is that just because a song is released w/a clean version and a MV does not mean it's a single.
So do you agree w/that or no

IMO He dropped it as one song all at once because he couldnt spread them out over the night and run the risk of Kendrick dropping in between and I think dropping 3 separate songs/videos at one time is less conducive to creating a moment for people than one big thing.
The latter reasoning is subjective obviously but I think its just more digestible as one singular 7 minute moment than having people reacting to different vids/songs at one time

Here's what I think. I think he was searching for 'the moment' he wasn't trying to find a smash radio hit.
If he got it? Great. Here's the clean edit for it. But he was looking for the viral moment. That's why the video for Family Matters exists. Viral moment =/ smash hit.
Its just a long rap diss with a MV. And in this era, MV are incredibly cheap to make, which is why a MV doesn't inherently mean single. And a Clean edit is just standard for any record that's on DSP's for 99% of major label recording acts.
He's been way more purposeful when it comes to wanting a smash radio record before. I just don't think he (or Dot for that matter w/Euphoria) are making 7 min songs if the idea is for them to last beyond the breathe of the entire beef.
So you do Family matters + MV to try and and get dot out of here and it's over, but MTG killed all of that and that's all there is to it tbh
If he was looking for the smash single, he would have made the song shorter, maybe had the radio DJ on it to make it anthemic...kind of like...push ups.
