If we're considering IYRTITL a mixtape and More Life a "playlist".
Scorpion had it's moments but lacked consistency. Views was unimpressive and once again wasn't consistent now we have CLB...
I don't mean to be that guy coming into a section I don't frequent in with a negative opinion but I'm just really dissapointed with what we got. For the most part this feels uninspired. Sounds like the same s*** he was rapping and singing about on Scorpion & Views
It’s hard to make a consistent album when so many people come to your album for different things. Drake’s a victim of his versatility. Some people want introspective rap Drake, some people want club rap Drake, some people want his r&b, some people want his radio/pop hits, etc.
Hard to make a cohesive/consistent album for everyone when you want to make a little of everything.

What do the great artists do? They make the album they want, and it turns out to be great anyway.

Drake does mix a lot of styles though. Genuinely curious, what artists do you see having 3-5 different music styles in their album and it comes out extremely cohesive/consistent? Not tryna be a troll I’m legit curious

He did this though on NWTS, TC, even IYRTITL had some slower sing songy songs in the mix. I get what you're saying I'm just not overly feeling this album. It has it's moments. I am a guy who like artist that do a bit of everything and I just feel like there's a lot of underwhelming tracks on here and a lot of filer/ tracks I know I won't be replaying much. The tracks that are good are great but I just feel like overall it could've been a lot better execution
Also, your own tastes will determine if it’s great or not. If Drake makes a banger & pop album, if you like both of these styles for example you’ll find it cohesive/consistent, if you hate pop you’ll think it’s s***. That’s why I think Drake is ultimately a victim of his own versatility

Donda mixes multiple styles very well. Rock, Gospel, Drill, whatever Come to Life is (pop?).

exact same lol...
STALLONE
LOCK UP
I think people (myself included) fall into the trap of expecting Drake’s subject matter to evolve markedly with each album. Maybe it will one day, but is there really anything wrong with him rehashing the same themes? The actual music is still good, the content is still reasonably relatable even if it’s not new or overly adventurous. There’s still joints to turn the f*** up to and others for when you’re brooding. It’s quintessential Drake. That’s who he is and what he delivers. 12 years into his career, I think our expectations are wrong if we’re hoping for him to change his whole persona and lifestyle just to rap about new things.
Drake is Drake and that’s what makes him great. He’s been doing it for so long and at such a high standard that people take it for granted.
