william cubitmost rappers when they wanna branch out to a new style just copy someone they like. drake actually hits them up and asks them to work w him on a song.
Yeah I mean, regardless my point was just that the drake writing stuff is not nearly as salacious as people want it to be
It’s like if a grade A mathematician got a helping hand from someone else to complete an equation. He’s still a genius mathematician
And like, the fact that drake can hear a Quentin miller, hear a Yatchy, artists who stylistically on the surface make no sense for drake, and identified how their sound and music could work with him, is an extremely important talent. Having an ear is everything.

For starters, Drake is a genius songwriter himself. So like, any discussion regarding his writing starts there.
I think it's clear that he can write the classic drake rap stuff, and classic drake R&B stuff. Where he commissions assistance at, is new flows, cadences, ideas, that are beyond his typical scope. I.E. Mob Ties. Records that won't be on his greatest hits per se, but help get him through the next 6 to 12 months. Every song can't be "Too much" or "5am in Toronto" or "Marvin's Room."
The thing is though, and this is where people get it f***ed up at, just like writing is a skill, so to is being able to hear demos and realizing that it can work for you. There's plenty of acts that would have heard Jumbotron from Yatchy and passed on it.
What f***s people up is that Drake is literally a producer, writer, rapper, singer, all in one and it's like people can't comprehend a rapper being able to be all of that.
He should get more credit for his use of writers, not less because he himself is a great songwriter.
