These type of conversations are inherently flawed. The same people who are bent out of shape about Drake not talking about social issues (in America) are the same people still praising Kanye while he kisses the ring of a fascist. Bumping Rodeo while Travis s***s on Mike Brown. Running back that J Cole while he preaches not voting.

At the end of the day, Drake is in a tight spot compared to most artists. He is not American and any American criticizing him needs to recognize that. My fellow Americans have consistently showed a lack of understanding of blackness outside of America. They don’t even view him as black! They have also made it clear that they don’t want to hear about being biracial....the only black experience he can really speak in detail about. Hasn’t the internet been clowning Logic for years for talking about his identity struggle?! They criticize him while making anti-semetic comments about one of the most prominent Jewish artists. Your favorite artists are silent when Jews are getting gunned down in synagogues. K Dot didn’t put out a statement about that shooting did he? I haven’t seen J Cole talk about Hispanics being put into camps. Vic Mensa was the only rapper at Standing Rock. I haven’t heard anyone speak up for Asians experiencing serious hate crimes during this pandemic. Where is Kung Fu Kenny when you need him?! Oh, he can take from asian culture and not speak up for them....sounds like some culture vulture s*** to me if we really want to criticize him like y’all do Drake.

The point is, you can go in all day about artists speaking on social issues but the reality is, everyone picks and chooses which issue to talk about or not talk about. And even if they do, they will completely ignore the atrocities going on overseas. If Drake wants to make a Black Lives Matter anthem then cool. Awesome if it’s genuine. But the real question is....will you actually accept it from him?

So in order to be black he has to talk about police brutality? He IS black regardless of how ignorant people feel about him. He’s done it before and nothing changed for him anyway.

Everyone loses ratings in your book or Drake only?

And for the George Floyd murder specifically?

Drake is to big to speak on black issues...I honestly feel he speaks no less than jay z

Celebrities are not in control! They must ask permission or be told when to stand up or sit down.

Btw, I don't think Drake will say nothing about this or do nothing.

I just think this thread was made with the sole purpose of getting the music sxn to bag on Drake by placing him under an unfair standard not placed on others.

    He's only black enough sometimes.

It's just kind of funny that all you want is an IG post at the exact moment but if he does that then you want a song.

  • May 29, 2020

Well actually it is complicated. He'll get ridiculed and nothing he says or do will ever be enough.

What stance?! He spoke out about Philando Castile Alton Sterling, but does he need to do that every time? Does he need to make a song about this particular situation? Donald Trump? Racism in general? I’m trying to understand what exactly you want from him specifically.

We know what his stance is based on that statement, previous lyrics, films that he’s executively produced, and other work in the community.
