I hate that comparison (Dre, Kanye) because it's disingenuous.
It doesn't matter for those guys because they weren't vying for the greatest rapper title or vying for the crown or vying for a spot in the GOAT rapper convo. Drake always wanted that. Writing will always matter when you are vying for that greatest rapper label.
That's the irony of it. Maybe a lot of his fans don't care about it, but he grew up as a rap nerd. So many of his favorite rappers when he was young are these lyrical guys and you can see their influence on him, especially early on.
And I wish this convo was left behind in 2015, but unfortunately he's still doing the reference track thing as evidenced by the recent leaks. It's lazy on his part and his laziness has showed for many years in his music.

This is copium.
Y'all gotta stop reading too deep into every single thing Drake does. Everything isn't a subliminal message. Dude can't even wear a shirt without y'all trying to find meaning in s*** that isn't nearly that deep. This s*** is getting weird tbh.
Yeah it’s annoying. People just can’t like the pic and go anymore when it comes to him on both side but mostly the k thots.
I’m just so excited for new drake music whenever it’s coming. I would be okay if he even waited to drop till next year or even the year after. It feels like a whole new chapter for Drake which is so exciting and fresh. With a whole new palette cleanse, there’s no telling where he will take it from a creative perspective

Kanye literally called himself the GOAT during the beef.
I really hope drake keeps just…teasing and doesn’t drop s***.
just keep people guessing….again…people are on his NUTS right now to see any and everything he does

If I call it out when weirdo Kendrick stans do it, I'll definitely also call it out when Drake fans do it. It's truly not that deep. Niggas reaching like crazy to find clues about what he's got going on but dude is just living his life. If he has anything to share with fans, he'll share it.

You obviously disagree and that's fine but the bottom line is way too many top tier rappers have said Drake has a pen.
(Including people who have personal reason to dislike him)
Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, Joe Budden, Jay-Z all subbed or dissed him. Some of the best rappers ever. They weren't wasting their time on some guy who isn't a "real" rapper. Let it go. He's off your list, that's cool for you.

Keep teasing like the CLB era lol... JANUARY 2021

Drake should just sign Pressa and those guys and make an OVO crew tape. Its time for rap drake

I never said he doesn't have a pen. No one that is being unbiased can ever say that.
It's two mutually exclusive things.
1) Reference tracks will always be a knock on him.
2) He can rap with the best of them.

Yeah, I think it's fine for anyone who wants to use that as a reason to remove Drake from certain conversations but I don't get trying to insist that other people do it. Drake's pen isn't compromised to me because he's written for tons of people and he's the one behind his most lyrical s***.
Where's the fight? Someone brought up calling for you, which was on Drake's last album, and I was like it's a fun song, but it sucks he didn't write it.
It'll always be a knock on him. I'm not sure how anyone can dance around that.
Then don't call him the GOAT if you truly believe this.
These convos just aren't worth my time.

I agree with this. I’m totally fine with people disagreeing, but putting drake on some pedestal for the sake of the ghostwriting argument is just weird lol. It can never just be an even playing field…

I'm not hurting you by throwing it out there. He wore a shirt that said If You're Reading This It's Too Late on the back right before the tape dropped and no one said anything because it seemed like nothing. If you think I'm wrong that's fine but we'll revisit this shirt if or when the time is right. Nothing is accidentally, believe everything
craziest message i read today was that "lebron is loyal"
almost started reaching for my waist..
damn this has been Drake the whole time

It ain't that deep, buddy. It's a shirt referencing a cult classic movie. That's all there is to it. Drake's got tons of shirts like that so you trying to find meaning in everything he wears is an exercise in futility but hey, if you wanna do it, great. Wasn't even necessarily calling you out, I was mostly speaking in general.

Drake has roughly 10-20 Reference tracks for him.
He has roughly 500+ officially released songs.
He has officially written - co-written more than the next rapper
More of them have connected than the next rapper
Drake has written about 10-20 records for other artists.
What are we doing here. Music is collaborative. Always has been.

Kinda crazy to see him in this position. People praying on his downfall but he's gonna make some crazy good music where people just can't help but have it on repeat.

Every single time his back has been against the wall he’s dropped a classic.. as a fan I am loving all of this lol. Because I know what’s coming next (well, generally speaking, of course)

I want this to be true but why did he make some of the best music in his entire discography (Push Ups, Family Matters, THP6) and people didn't play it? I know we have them on repeat but I still wonder what was missing for the casuals. Push Ups especially is so repayable imo
