ok, but it's the same vocal mix...
trust me im an engineer. I could tell u what they're doing specifically to get that effect but it would be jargony asf
HN is a masterclass on mixing, what are you all talking about
listen 2 drake's vocals carefully
I won't say it's mixed poorly, but it's definitely mixed weirdly. idk how familiar u are with audio but try to listen for when his vocals sound time stretched.
Do any of you actually go to parties with Funktion 1's and large sound systems?
Bc I swear to you that the album isn't mixed thinking about your portable JBL's that come with accumulating points at the gas station

The vocal effect was stupid then. How do you release a song about relationships/love and then choose to make your voice off/robotic? How does that make sense? I'd get it if he was singing over an electronic beat and wanted his voice to match the production but that wasn't the case. I'll just assume he didn't hear the final version of the song and some engineer f***ed it up and the wrong version got uploaded.

u are not going to get a good sense for the mix by hearing it at a party
u could mix it 15 different ways that sound good at a party and only maybe like 4-5 will sound good when u listen on headphones

Time stretching isn’t the issue people have w the mix

Thank you for answering lil bro
I'm a DJ, producer and engineer that's why this s*** gets me heated I'm sorry lol
The voice effects are in line with what we hear in the techno/minimal/house scene nowadays
It's made for those venues and parties, he wanted to branch out, I understand it's not as typical and blended as it usually is for Drake
But it's a stylistics choice which was very well executed IMO
Time stretching isn’t the issue people have w the mix
yeah i don't think they're actually time stretching, I think most of the effect is coming from them f***ing around w formants. im just saying it sounds time stretched.
drake dropping unfinished mid and not even acknowledging that it’s fixed and just posting more stake on his story holy hell boys it might be drover

Yes and no
No mix is perfect, that concept is subjective
So we've reached similar points of view here.
Since this album is made for big sound systems, the mix is in line for what is expected in a dance music scenario. Even the delays on the plucks and stabs are an indicator of that.
All other Drake albums have near flawless mixes as well, but in a headphone scenario, which is the way trap music and RnB is most consumed nowadays

I'm sorry I don't speak Native English, so I don't know if i'm sounding rude or something lmao it's all love
since we’re talking about bad drake mixes i’m still pissed about the way Sticky sounds

Wym that’s one of his most pristine mixes

yeah i think ur right. it makes sense to me, idk why i've never thought abt this lol.
sometimes when i mix vocals and the beat is rlly busy in the mid-range frequencies, I have to up the mids on the vocals to make them sound normal in context. It sounds fine all together, but if i take out the beat, the vocals sound ass.
it's probably like that with mixing for clubs, boosting certain frequency ranges so everything sounds normal when u hear it with the constant hum of people talking and moving. no wonder it sounds weird on headphones.
me personally, i wish they went for something in between. like they didn't have to make the formant effects as prominent as they did. they didn't have to boost those frequencies as much as they did. they could have been moderate with it, which is pretty much what they did in the updated mix.
also isn't it kind of out of touch to mix primarily for clubs when most of ur plays come from streaming?
What did they fix on AM?
this is a fire mashup, I was rly hoping Yeat would be on the official
Hope they eventually get a couple of tracks done

This album is Drake, Carnage and 40's love-baby to get a definite status in the eletronic scene
They see the vision, techno's growth has been absolutely insane and it's the vibe for upper-class society nowadays
So yes it's outdated as a concept.. we apply it in Crossbreed and DnB and that's one of the main reasons why we're behind every genre lol.
But in this case it makes perfect sense to do it
Let's put it like this: Drake doesn't have anything else to prove to the rap-listening ctowd
But he has something to prove in the rave/festival scene where he has been meme'd for many many years as the posterboy of radio-happy songs when that's not even true
So he's just doing side questão
As a Drake fan who did raves for a living... Wet dream of an album lol
There are people asking about him now who didn't give a s*** before this album. He accomplished what we wanted to, just see the reactions of live crowds in Europe/South America, not just in his gigs but in major house/techno DJ sets

Raves for a living? Were you a DJ or more on the organizing end?
