  • You guys in America are only just about to see how dangerous gambling is with the widespread legalization of sports betting. Here in Australia it’s f***ed - pretty much 1 in 3 young males has a gambling addiction but it’s just normalized. Sports betting and horse racing ads on TV all the time, poker machines in every pub and club. People lose their families, homes and lives over this s***. And again - I’m not against gambling and I particularly enjoy horse racing as a sport, but I feel it’s wrong when it’s advertised relentlessly without adequate warnings about the danger. At least Drake posts his bets beforehand rather than just showing what he wins, I’ll give him props for that

Is it illegal yes or no

Does it kill people, yes or no? It can destroy lives and families quicker than alcohol and d****. I’m not by any means saying it should be banned but I just wish these streamers were upfront about the arrangements they have in place with the bookmakers and provided disclaimers to their young, impressionable audiences

You’re missing my point lmao. I’m not saying people shouldn’t have the choice to gamble, my issue is with how it’s promoted and advertised with very little light shone on the risks. If you just watched YouTube clips you’d think it’s all harmless fun. You don’t think it’s wrong that these streamers are doing these streams with the intention of getting their young viewers to deposit and lose money just so they can profit? I wouldn’t put Drake in the same category as them and it’s good that he shows his bets beforehand instead of pretending he wins all the time. Still think it’d be responsible for someone of his stature to put a disclaimer on his posts

And if you get addicted to gambling there’s not much of a life to live

His responsibility is to stake and to get people gambling

If he’s not doing anything illegal it’s on the individual to have some self control

You clearly don’t have any experience with addiction. Self-control doesn’t exist for a compulsive gambler - even if they want to stop they can’t unless barriers are put in place. Just like with alcohol, for the majority of people gambling is a fun pastime and they’re able to stop when they want. Others are unable to control their compulsions. Difference is between gambling and alcohol/drugs is you can f*** your life up more quickly gambling. If you’re sports betting you can blow your life savings with the push of a button

None of this is his responsibility lmao

Why does Aubrey or stake care if people have problems

    It’s a business

I mean, Stake should care - all bookmakers are bound by responsible gambling protocols. I’m not saying Drake shouldn’t be promoting Stake - he clearly has an interest in gambling and that’s fine. I’m more taking aim at streamers and bookmakers whose only intention is to take as much of your money as possible. I would just like to see a change in how it’s promoted. I don’t think it’s too much to expect for Drizzy to put a disclaimer on his posts or a link where people can find gambling help? It’s certainly not illegal but I’d like to think he cares about his fans, especially the younger ones

    Breh you’re madly overthinking this

Everyone whose not a f***ing idiot knows what gambling can do

If people still want to gamble then good on them

A phone number for gambling help or something is just performative

U the one that need to grow up fam

I live in UK and they managed to associate sport with gambling to an evil extent. Commercials part of every game, every sports team promoting it. Try to make u feel like u not watching sport right if u not gambling also.

This isn't a personal attack on Drake. We have started to push back on it here. And sports team stay clear of them a lot more than they used to. Just an evil industry. If you actually do consistently well then they ban you and blacklist you.

predatory nature this predatory nature that

I've never gambled in my life and I never will. Don't give a s*** who gets on stake or who streams what. People around me drank and smoked and did d**** from day 1 and yet I've been straight edge my whole life.

At the end of the day it's up to the individual. We need to start promoting the idea of taking responsibility for your own actions. We need to strengthen the will of the people. Too many weak individuals that wanna blame everything on streamers and s***. Man up, nobody is forcing you to do anything.

    Thank you

Yes mate we all grew up on sky bet

Like I said earlier you have to be an idiot not to know about the pitfalls of gambling

If you choose to partake in it then it’s on you.

That’s the problem though - everyone thinks they understand the risks and no one thinks they’ll get addicted. Unless you’ve experienced it or been around it it’s hard to understand. There’s still very much a general thought of “well why don’t they just stop?” in relation to gambling addicts.

If you start gambling at a young age you’re extremely likely to experience gambling harm.

If you’re of legal age and are informed of the potential consequence then yes I agree, gamble if you wish.

Not saying Drake is necessarily in the wrong. As I’ve said, as far as influencers go he’s one of the better ones

Well you ignorant as hell then fam. It's not as simple as that. It's not just about knowing the pitfalls, it's something that is addictive.

No one is saying that it should be banned completely but there should be restrictions on advertisement. Like there is with alcohol and other things. And it's my belief people should have responsibility for things they promote. I would say that's a pretty reasonable thing. U entitled to think Drake doing nothing wrong but people can disagree with you and have good reasons for doing so.

Mate he’s advertising on his private channel

He’s not putting up billboards or anything for public consumption but doing streams on his own page that people have to get to themselves.

At what stage does accountability from an individual come in lmfao.

This is a completely unserious thread

His personal page where he has lots of young fans and gullible stans

You just need to look at how people on KTT been following his promotion and betting to see it's very effective advertisement and reaching a lot of people

U a dumbass lmao the fact he been promoting it as personally as he has makes it worse than just appearing in a commercial. He been getting a bag to make it fully apart of his brand

And yes we look.down on people promoting things if it's harmful, all.the people promoting crypto scams get a lot of heat. Kardashians get heat for the toxic s*** they promote to their female fans who.wanna look like them. No diff here
