I guess this is why 40 isn’t around as much, which explains why these last few Drake albums sound completely different and not as genuine. I’m not the biggest fan of Views but that was the last real Drake ALBUM if you get what I mean.

Honestly Nevermind was a nice detour but everything else has just been more vibes than art and lack the vision that got Drake where he is.

i feel like CLB was the closest we got to true Drake, but it still felt like a plastic Views, which was a plastic Take Care

NWTS was the beginning of the end for Drake. it’s the album where he decided to larp as a mob boss for the rest of his career. SFTB & Worst Behavior might be enjoyable but they should’ve never been Drake songs

True, but the main ear candy on these songs is not from him. The parts that ppl gravitate to the most have not seemed to come solely from Drake since maybe scorpion? Even that statement is not a guarantee cause who knows maybe someone else wrote those too.

Idk it’s just disappointing. The only saving grace for me was the timestamp style raps but even that is seemingly being collaborated on. It’s like finding out one of your favorite athletes was doing steroids throughout his entire prime. So wtf was really you? It’s a let down. Then he goes on rap radar and tells us all his singles that did real damage for him he “wrote every single lyric”…..smh

I look at it like this

    1) It takes real skill and talent to hear a Janice or Nokia and hear the potential. Those demos are far from finished polished products. There are so many hits that artists have passed up on because they couldn't hear the potential. Drake always can.

    2) He's always on cycle, that comes at a cost. He's not asked to make 12 songs every 3 years.

I see what you’re saying but at least they were intentionally unserious. Feel like that mob boss talk became his real thing after the Kanye beef so really starting with Scorpion.

His most poppin song in years was stolen damn

and its the poppin part of the song too like its the part that the songs popularity is owed to

  • Another thread about Drake filled to the brink with posts by the group of societal outcasts that allegedly hate him and everything he stands for

wym intentionally unserious? like a parody?

his next project was IYRTITL, where he used that braggadocios mafioso style for nearly the entire album, and none of it was ironic

  • s*** was an interpolation of lykke li anyways who cares

I get it, it’s probably the most efficient and effective way for him to write songs at this stage of his career where I’m sure the demand is at an all time high and the amount of time is low

But for me as just a fan, it taints the integrity of the artist. I know he’s a rapper that’s like a huge pop star now, but give me the grass roots Drake. You don’t have to do this pop star s*** all the time. I think the need to be #1 has driven him to do s*** like this and f*** over artists. Just get back to the grass roots. Get back to songs like make them pay. Lock away with 40 or even if it’s not 40, just one or two of your trusted producers and get back to the personal touches

The personal touches are all over Iceman though.

Make them cry and Make them pay are full of them. From talking about his parents, to OVO chains being sold, those are very clearly bars only he could come up with.

It is not a coincidence that these references or demos lack a certain level of color.

And this idea that there was a time when this wasn't happening doesn't exist. Again, he didn't write his I'm Goin in Verse and that was in 2009.
I think the reality is, and TO ME, this is why it really is a nothing burger...is that sometimes he writes half a song, sometimes he writes full songs, sometimes he doesn't write anything on the song, he's a songwriter. This is what songwriters do. The-Dream didn't write every lyric that he ever sang. I know drake is a 'rapper' but he approaches it that way.

He writes, which to me makes it not a big deal.

  • CutiePieHole

I think its ok for drake to steal it if he made it better

I understand what you’re saying. And I know why Drake approaches writing that way. S***, it’s lead to almost 2 decades of non stop hits. But like you said earlier , he needs to be more transparent about that. And don’t get sensitive when niggas come for your integrity. Especially when you go on interviews and say “every song that did real damage for me, I wrote every single lyric” because it’s clearly some pop star s*** going on to me

How are we sure that Drake has ever written a song in his life? At This point it’s a real possibility he hasn’t.

  • Real

    Credit the artists.
