This isn't a full suit yet tho. Its a petition to convince a judge to let Drake's team have access to UMG's files and do depositions for evidence they could include in a future trial. Like Drake's team doesn't actually have in their possession a paper trail proving a payola scheme

He’s not looking to get out of his deal he’s trying to get a new one and his last deal was north of 350Ms by all accounts

I am not saying that there is much in drake’s favor in the pre petition but that’s the point of the pre petition, they have reason to believe that the actual evidence is being suppressed

It sounds like a Hail Mary from drake’s side, the idea that NLU is costing you hundreds of millions of dollars but if this ultimately nets you a material increase in negotiations then I suppose that’s a W?

My only point is that drake wouldn’t sue UMG over a trivial number. He’s not suing over 20, 30 million dollars. For him to go this route suggest to me that the numbers that’s being discussed are seismic which makes this ordeal a bit less bizarre IMO
