jynthit’s mostly the hooks tbh. he’s still skilled but those were arguably his strongest suit and he doesn’t care about em anymore it seems
if Marvin's Room came out today, the hook for it would be him crooning “Marvin’s Rooooom, Marvin’s Roooooaaam (oh wooaaah)” for 45 seconds
Yeah, his writing nowadays is a lot less structured and more free-flowing and formless, especially on his singing tracks.
Just compare the writing styles on songs like The Real Her or Shot For Me with songs like Hours in Silence, Jaded, or Slime You Out.
His older singing songs were more traditionally structured whereas his newer singing songs more often than not take the form of one long verse, where about halfway through he finds one pocket/cadence/flow that he rides out until the end of the verse.
I don’t know if it’s intentional or not, but it’s definitely there, which is why I wouldn’t call this song a 1:1 replication of “old Drake”, but it’s definitely the evolved Drake’s rendition of that sound

Just listened to the song. It’s decent but not single material imo. I understand the free flowing emotional intention behind it, but these types of tracks are better kept as album cuts like Hours in Silence. Hopefully, his next single is more catchy with an addictive chorus
