shaleiroseYeah, his writing nowadays is a lot less structured and more free-flowing and formless, especially on his singing tracks.
Just compare the writing styles on songs like The Real Her or Shot For Me with songs like Hours in Silence, Jaded, or Slime You Out.
His older singing songs were more traditionally structured whereas his newer singing songs more often than not take the form of one long verse, where about halfway through he finds one pocket/cadence/flow that he rides out until the end of the verse.
I don’t know if it’s intentional or not, but it’s definitely there, which is why I wouldn’t call this song a 1:1 replication of “old Drake”, but it’s definitely the evolved Drake’s rendition of that sound
It’s because that’s how modern trendy songs are structured now especially in the streaming era unfortunately. The Drake we knew that was a student of the greats has been gone for years now. He even says it himself in some songs

This is my issue with the song.
Sonically it sounds fantastic. But its the same formula we’ve been getting and after a week the novelty of a new song will wear off
(im speaking about this song indivudally ignoring the new album. I’m aware we’ll have more new music in a week)

It's very clear that this is Drake's self vision of greatness now. This sounds like every other r&b song he's released in the last couple years. Empty & lazy. Like you said, it's badly written. Weak hook, badly structured (search and rescue's "hook" is laughable for his past writing standards), etc.
Drake already doesn't harmonize even the littlest bit, and his already bad singing is being visibly carried more and more by autotune and melodyne each album that passes. I knew it was a wrap after Falling Back dropped and he actually thought that singing was even close to passable for release.
