His voice has changed bro that’s been the case why would we expect him to pop out sounding like cleanly shaven Drake vocally all of a sudden that era is over

Also he uses autotune now not only for pitch correction but for aesthetic which changed the sound of his voice even further

Either embrace the change or set yourself up for disappointment everytime this man sings from now on

Also beat is far from mid sample is lush and everything else is just a vibe that serves as a nice backdrop for the theme Drake and Sza have going

Not everything has to be trying so hard to be Micheal bay explosion entertaining or 30 piece orchestra impressive all the time

This record is minimalistic modern Drake done right

In y’all defense Drake has conditioned people to expect bangers as lead singles so I could see how something this chill and free form could throw people off but y’all been BEGGING for him to “do something different”, “go back to the old Drake”, “give us rnb” etc

He subverts expectations and does all 3 in one record and predictably y’all all lame out smh. Now don’t say s*** when the next project has like 10 Way too sexys

    Rather have 10 tuscan leathers

Way 2 sexy fun but big mid

    This.

Miss the NWTS, IYRTITL drake voice but yeah you’re right. Eras come and go and we gotta embrace what Drake has for us. He’s been very generous to us as fans so nothing to complain.

I don’t agree with the people saying this is a bad single because it’s a bad song, but I can kind of understand the sentiment by not wanting this as a single because it doesn’t really work as a single.

It’s a 5 minute slow R&B song in 3/4 with no hook and a second half where the drums drop out for an extended period of time.

It’s a really good song in my opinion, but I get why some people may not like it as the choice for the lead single.

I’m more than sure there will be some more uptempo catchy songs on For All the Dogs, people may have just preferred to hear one of those first to represent the album as the lead single for it.

I personally think this is his best single since Nice For What though

Tbh while it did grow on me as a song, I’m not sure I’m putting this over Jimmy Cooks or even Laugh Now Cry Later

Imo we were lucky to get a single at all. It’s not like Drake “needs” a hit single for people to tap in when he drops. I feel like he purposely lead with this song to cleanse the pallet for the album. People have a lot of pre conceived notions when it comes to Drake projects so I feel like he dropped this to intentionally subvert expectations. No one has a clue what the album will sound like based on this record and that’s a good place to be. Now it’s on Drake to deliver

You can say "we were lucky to get this at all" to dismiss any criticism of any piece of art though, that's not really valid.

Drake definitely doesn't need a hit single to get people to tune into an album, but when an artist is dropping a lead single for a brand new record, it's natural for fans to expect a certain style of song (not sonically, moreso compositionally/structurally).

And again, Drake is not at fault for dropping an unconventional lead single, I think it was a bold choice. I'm just saying I understand the fans who are feeling like the song doesn't work as a single

I’m not saying that in response to any criticism I’m just saying that because it’s facts. He doesn’t need singles at this point. He’s one of the biggest artists in the history of popular music.

I understand some people expecting a more traditional single too but ijs there is no need for him to do that anymore. I think it’s a bold move as well and I like when legends move on that type time.

The funny thing is that during his peak commercial era when he was dominating with hit singles (views - CLB) people were complaining about him being a singles artist with no creative substance and would cry every time he dropped one of those more conventionally commercial singles you are talking about lol. People are full of s*** man

Idk I think people just complained when it would be entire projects full of songs like that. God’s Plan, One Dance, and Nice For What were all pretty well received as single releases
