Then it's a lazy joke. Y'all say s*** like this only because dude has an acting background. There are rappers out here who came from upper middle-class background and only rap about coming from the streets/being dirt broke and no one ever says they're faking s***.
In reality, Drake is one of the few rappers out here whose past life is open to everyone. He came into the game embracing everything he was: from being Jewish, to being Canadian, to having a white mom, to having an absentee dad, to being an actor on a Teen Drama TV show, etc. We all knew this things about him. Not to mention dude made a career out of rapping about his life and not made up stories.
"Drake" is literally just his middle name, along with being what most people have been referring to him as from as far back as when he was still a child (he has posted pictures from childhood birthdays and you can see posters that say "Happy Birthday, Drake", not even "Happy Birthday, Aubrey").
But you have people on Twitter saying this same s*** like they're saying something smart and it's just silly to me, I guess.

It's not a cape. You're judging Drake at 17 years old for saying something that isn't even wild. All he said was speaking like that was ignorant and he said so in front of cameras and in the midst of people who wouldn't understand the slang even if he tried to explain it to them.
Maybe he really did think that back then or maybe not, who knows? Either way, acting like as a teenager, you or other people didn't distance yourself from certain things you believed would make you appear uncool around certain people is silly. It's a lot of teenagers who use homophobic/misogynistic terms only because they hang around friends who do the same and it isn't until they get older/realize they no longer need to do that to be seen as cool that they evolve and move on from s*** like that.
So it's stupid trying to act like any evolution a person goes through is fake. Since Drake started rapping, he's been very open about embracing Toronto and putting the city on. He was bigging up the city/everything associated with it long before it was cool to do so. He's also spoken about how people from Toronto used to be embarrassed to claim the city/aspects of the city and how he set out to change that mentality so acting like him embracing the same Toronto slang he dismissed in this clip is somehow him being fake, is dumb.

This is what is funny to me that people don't get (or are acting like they don't get).
He explained the slang well enough that you can tell he knows how to use it. You're not knowing that unless you're hanging around people who talk like that but again, he's on camera and around people who wouldn't understand that s*** and he's a kid trying to come off as cool as possible so of course he'd talk s*** about it. It's really not that hard to understand but people always wanna do the most when it comes to Drake so they'll judge a clip like this like it's not from over half his life ago.
