I think his style of choice when it comes to melodies, and when it comes to his general "singing" can definitely be off-putting if you're someone who's ear was trained to associate melody with outrageously large, and big vocals with range.
I think at the heart of SOME of the drake criticism stems from that. It's hard to hear a "bad" singer use melody as much as drake does.
But I ultimately think it's a misguided way to evaluate Drake's use of melody. I also don't even think he's a "bad" singer
No.
Believe it or not Drakes limited singing ability is what makes the songs unique and have they own tone.
If he sang like the a traditional singer the songs would flop.
It’s why nobody who can sing better than him has as many hits in rap or r&b as him.
This. People can sing along to drake
No.

This. I don’t want weeknd style of singing on his songs
Would take away from what makes them Drake songs

Trust issues > weeknd trust issues remix
Oh your saying it would be better with vibrato, yeah totally agree
Also if he could do nice runs wouldn't hurt, I mean he has the money to hire a teacher lol and I'm pretty sure his voice has room to grow range wise dont see why he has not pushed himself
He’s had a vocal coach for years. Just listen how he sounds in sfg compared to now. He’s a much improved vocalist, but vibrato is one of those things that takes even longer to develop. It’s hard to start where drakes base was at in the beginning and then develop vibrato. Weeknd was already a tremendously talented singer
He’s had a vocal coach. He’s not going to improve as a singer and we’re just going to have to accept that. I’m grateful he doesn’t try to force falsettos like some of these other singing rappers

Vibrato isn’t that hard to develop. As someone who has taken private vocal lessons it didn’t take that long.
As someone who can use vibrato I honestly think it’s overrated. It’s cool if used sparingly but otherwise I’m not really a fan of it.
I don't think so.
I've long held the belief that at least in the Hip-Hop / R&B sphere, a great vocalist is not only not necessary, but a hindrance to the point of the song.
Drake (and others) use melody, production, and their solid, low register singing voices to highlight the songwriting, and a great vocalist would do the opposite of that.
It helps to not think of Drake's singing as "singing," at least I don't. It's more so just a different vehicle to get to the end goal, a great record with gorgeous melodies and an infectious hook.
What do you mean a great vocalist would do the opposite of that? A great vocalist understands how to highlight the text in a song and emphasize it with their singing.
Someone can be really talented vocally but not understand how to make it musical. (Such as adding unnecessary runs or changing the melody drastically without purpose)
Drake is certainly a decent singer. I think he does well and I honestly prefer singing Drake to rapping Drake but it also wouldn’t be a bad thing if he had stronger vocal chops. I don’t think it would take away from the song

Like I was trying to say, if he improved his singing, it's not like he wouldn't be able to still do what he does now. It would just give him opportunities to make different types of songs. I think we heard plenty of songs by him in his register by now
I listened to ktfc earlier today too & was thinking it could be a bond theme tune with more expressive singing & broader range
This! That and Champagne Poetry along with Tuscan Leather and Legend are his best Intros

He can harmonize though and he did do a few nice runs on a few tracks on CLB

He has a nice falsetto tho. It showed on Get Along Better

He’s not and it shows all over this album but it’s super noticeable on Fair Trade near the end of Travis part when he’s harmonizing and vocalizing in the back

He can’t do that live
He can’t do that live
A lot of singers now can’t sing the way they do live. So what’s the difference in that aspect
