I haven’t heard cha cha, but I seriously doubt it’s not a straight up “ripoff.”
Songs having similar sounds or concepts is just a result of a s*** ton of art being made right now. No f***ing s*** some of it is similar.
I lowkey hate the “ripoff” complaint because it is anti-creativity

u could have taken 3 minutes to listen to the song before speaking confidently on the matter with no information

  • Were quickly coming up on this being a decade old issue

Listening now, not that it matters, P****. 95% of the time it’s bullshit, that’s a safe bet.
Was gonna do it anyway, cuz it interested me.
This is similar sound wise, but a completely different song subject wise, the sounds it uses to create it, even structurally, DRAM was NOT copied, as if “copying” is even a thing

    “No information”
There are like, two songs in the past 10 years that are actually copies, and thousands of instances of clout chasers using the fact that their song is vaguely similar for clout and, when courts get involved, money.
I was basing my correct take that I stand by after hearing Cha Cha on that information.

Don't get me wrong: I completely agree and I would have replied too. I just don't think he's moved on from what I've seen in the thread below

I hope he starts working again. His work with Donnie Trumpet was legitimately some of the best music I had heard during 2015

I kind of remember when it premiered on OVO Radio Apple labeled it as a Cha Cha Remix

  • i always thought the connection was overstated tbh. yes they're similar, but far from identical.

    He's missing all the context

Thoughts on Drake acknowledging that he got the idea from DRAM?
    thefader.com/2015/10/20/drake-hotline-bling-cha-cha-interview

Drake spoke about the connection between the songs in the course of his interview with The FADER—though his comments haven’t been published until now. Responding to a question about a sunnier vibe to some of his summer output—he seems to acknowledge that “Hotline Bling” was based on “Cha Cha” and describes the song as a modern-rap equivalent to a dancehall artist recording their own spin on a hot riddim.

“You know, like in Jamaica, you’ll have a riddim and it’s like, everyone has to do a song on that,” Drake said. “Imagine that in rap, or imagine that in R&B. Imagine if we got one beat and every single person—me, this guy, this guy, all these guys—had to do a song on that one beat. So sometimes I’ll pick a beat that’s a bit, like, sunnier, I guess is the word you used, than usual, and I just try my hand at it. And that’s kind of what ‘Hotline Bling’ was. And I loved it. It’s cool. I’ve been excited by that sort of creative process.”
