It’s not just aesthetic for them they genuinely worship carnage — those kids in ski masks are liable to jump you you without probable cause of even trying to defuse a fight and they might even shoot you

Not only has drill enveloped Europe but even kids from suburban and mid sized urban cities who do it as devotional to an abstract worship of violence

2012 we were watching the lives of neglected crack babies that were sympathetic to but these HS kids who now are emulating come from homes of middle class working parents but ironically similar that the neglect might come from overworking parents without even the guidance of a grandmother they’ve chosen NBa youngboy or something else of that ilk as their foundation

    youngboy says stop the violence

  • Jan 10, 2024

I'm gonna stop doing anything I don't want children to do. Do I have children? No. But every time I drive a car or sip a glass of wine, I am materially contributing to making them unsafe. Everything should be for everyone.

Sounds pretty unreasonable to me. Let's try again.

If I stop listening to drill music, they will stop making drill music. Off to a shaky start. I want them to stop making drill music because drill music is causing violent crime. Uh, here's a video of children cussing and having fun. As a child, I never cussed.

Damn it, I know I can get this right.

If you look at this app 6 hours a day, you can clearly see the biggest problems facing the youth is bad music and cuss words. As a kid, I listened to bad music and I'm clearly in prison posting this right now, my long life of crime behind me. Now I listen to boring stuff because I'm 30.

Idk, I'm going back to drinking my Prime Energy and playing Fortnite.

People will get upset and in their feelings over this, saying that you’re wrong and “I guess gta and mob movies are ruining the youth too”

But you can’t cry about how cudi or Kanye saved your life with their music and then deny the influence of drill rap.

Culture is downstream from art. And it’s okay to admit music we enjoy has a negative impact on more vulnerable parts of the population

And it’s okay to admit music we enjoy has a negative impact on more vulnerable parts of the population

Doesn’t admitting enjoyment go hand in hand with condoning? At what point does it no longer become okay to condone it?

What’s right about that? It’s not. “We were watching the lives of neglected crack babies” in 2012 (what?) but ten years later crack (and all the circumstantial s*** that lead people to crack) have disappeared and been replaced by a vague, all-encompassing middle class thats simultaneously too privileged to deserve our sympathy but also too overworked to protect kids from exposure to violent crime?

They couldnt kill black people fast enough with the mcdonalds southern chicken biscuit despite their best marketing efforts so they decided to let Chief Keef and the rest of Chicago loose on America.

    No argument from me there.

I’m fine with that the subgenre dying out, and I’m also fine with it continuing but with a collective and communal effort to provide a strong base of context so that young people don’t take the lyrics to heart

But those solutions require someone far smarter than me

Music can influence the way you talk, the way you dress, what you buy, your perspective, it can even "save your life". But some of ya still act like it can't have influence on your behaviors, especially on people in vulnerable positions.

also, a lot of times that whole “gta and mob movies” thing feels like a fallacy

Like yes, people who want to ban video games and movies are stupid and going too far

But I think somewhere along the line, we accepted that as a fact too much, and now no one ever wants to look like one of those “crazy moms blaming video games/movies/music”

Under this idea, we can never have any discussion about whether or not what’s being pushed on us is good for us, and so we’re on like a whole nother extreme

I’ve noticed things like this idk if there’s a term for it. When a seemingly reasonable stance like being pro artist and anti censorship ends up being used as a veil and justification for literally anything. It’s like a good idea gone too far or something

It’s this same thought process that will have people look at you crazy if you question how Apple products and social media are effecting us. There’s this attitude that no media can be bad or you’ll be laughed at if you say it is
