Music can influence the way you talk, the way you dress, what you buy, your perspective, it can even "save your life". But some of ya still act like it can't have influence on your behaviors, especially on people in vulnerable positions.

Juice and Lucki both admitted to drinking lean because of Future and Wayne. That's what really changed my mind on the s*** we listen to how it effects us as a culture

Okay, I'll humor every one of you who are scared s***less about gangster rap music 40 years into gangster rap music.

What do you want us to do about it? Stop listening to it? Individually? You want me to listen to different music. That is going to fix the problem? You seriously think that?

Or what? Censor it? Should a government agency regulate it? Is that what you want?

This type of all or nothing thinking is defeatist and what they wants. Just because it would seem impossible to actually rid society of bad things doesn’t mean we shouldn’t at least attempt to have conversations about things that could be bad for society. We can’t just accept things as they are blindly, even though that’s what’s encouraged

Rap is a small issue though I will say. social media, smartphones and p*** all need more awareness and discussion around their use and effects. Then maybe we can get to the messages that music and Hollywood are pushing

The problem today is artist don’t even need labels to push out this image of drill rappers anymore, the algorithms on social media will do it alone

I mean it's a complicated and intricate issue it's not something that can be reduced down to stop listening to it and it'll go away or censorship lol

All of nothing thinking? So what, listen to it a little less and regulate/censor it a little more? Not sure what you mean. I asked for solutions. Now you're blaming phones and p***. That's a non-sequitur.

  • Jan 10, 2024

Lets fix the actual issues that make society bad and make people desperate enough to do bad s***. Then we'll focus on the music. Although I'm sure it would fix itself in that case

    Good take

People are overlooking this because social media is interactive but it’s actually become a much more effective brainwashing tool than TV ever was and that’s crazy

Seems pretty straight forward when you blame music for violent crime.

Then I ask for a solution and it's not "consume less" or "regulate more". Nobody wants that.

The door is open guys. I feel like I could come up with a ton of ideas to address violent crime that don't have anything to do with drill music. Come up with one that includes it since it's so important.

My point was, the whole “welp rap exists and people listen to it so there’s nothing we can do it’s not worth talking about” is defeatist and shoots ourself in the foot

There shouldn’t be censorship but the conversations can still be had. If we just accept everything how it is then we’re even more f***ed. There’s too much of people just quietly blindly accepting this s*** hand that’s being handed to us. I believe whole of society is on a severe downturn that hasn’t been seen since the dark ages

    It is consume less tbh

Or at least being conscious that it’s narratives that are being pushed on you so when you do consume you’ll be more aware and might not get brainwashed

I mean gangsta rap started as violent crime in America plummeted. Go look at the murder rate in Chicago when drill started. Historic lows. The correlation isn't even there.

So not only are you guys wrong, hiding behind the nuance of "contributing factor" at best, you don't even have any solutions. Crying online at your Twitter or Tik Tok algorithm.

Gangsta rap was always pushed by the government. The US government promoted The Chronic to be as impactful as it was imo

@ the end of the day its jut music so its gonna be catchy and pull in the impressionable youth. Key word "impressionable". Parents gotta do better for they kids

  • Love seeing you lil weirdos come to this realization after stanning dog s*** music in your teens

People will get upset and in their feelings over this, saying that you’re wrong and “I guess gta and mob movies are ruining the youth too”

But you can’t cry about how cudi or Kanye saved your life with their music and then deny the influence of drill rap.

Culture is downstream from art. And it’s okay to admit music we enjoy has a negative impact on more vulnerable parts of the population

Good thing majority of people don’t claim Kanye or Cudi saved their lives

Should we organize a boycott of the bad scary rap music? Because individual consumption isn't likely to do much.

So let's do a BDS list for rap music. Tell me who I can't listen to. Name names.

You know what I don’t like about you ktt niggas, y’all pick and choose a lot of ya’ll hate on drill talking about how negative it is how it’s ruining the youth with d*** and gun rap but in the same breath talk about how much of a legend most trap rappers are like gucci mane and others praising even tho it’s the SAME S*** AS DRILL! There’s no difference trap and drill are both one in the same, both speak on the same s***.. and then y’all have a nerve to praise chief keef like son isn’t one of the main pioneer of this s*** so let’s stop the bullshit

Don’t really agree with the narrative and op post but don’t be obtuse. Drill is the most violent form of gangsta rap by far, whether it’s UK, EU, Chi or NY. There’s a reason why majority ppl of 90s or 00s gangsta rap or trap still alive while major figures of drill are dead despite it being far more recent

Tbh i never said anything about a correlation in that sense

I actually believe that some of the music and media today is bad for us in a more subtle way that encourages us to always rely on our base instincts and never on higher thought or spirituality, the 808s and content keeping you in the low chakra of base urges, sex, and wants. This is the ideal condition for capitalism to work on us because we’re all tired and looking for our next dopamine fix. Don’t question anything just get that fix, hear that beat drop, feel good. This is what’s being pushed underneath it all
