Drogas Wave is the seventh studio album by American hip hop recording artist Lupe Fiasco, released by 1st and 15th Productions and Thirty Tigers on September 21, 2018. This album is a follow-up to his 2017 album, Drogas Light.

In a 2018 Billboard interview, Fiasco revealed the main idea of the project:

Itā€™s about a group of slaves on a slave ship on their way to Africa to the West Indies and they are thrown off the boat. But they didnā€™t die. They stayed alive and they lived under the sea. And they dedicated their lives to sinking slave ships -- so they became this super, underwater force against slavery. Itā€™s like a super-deep story that I am building on different fronts. But thatā€™s the main idea and the source material for the album.

In a 2018 Complex interview, Fiasco said:

Drogas Wave is based on a story about a group of slaves that jumped off a slave ship transporting them from Africa. The slaves did not drown, and instead somehow managed to live under the sea. They spent the rest of their underwater existence sinking slave ships. ā€˜Drogasā€™ is the Spanish word for d****. I made it an acronym which stands for ā€˜Donā€™t Ruin Us God Saidā€™.

    Which side are you on?
Am I getting warmer? Cause I can't hold on
Are you close to me? Sunset so long
And can you call me? Cause I lost my phone
Should I wait for you? Or should I go home?
I canā€™t function, these d**** are too strong
I'm seeing stars now, but I'm still unknown
Out here alone, sunset so long, so long

  • S*** sounds like a continuation of T&Y, Lupe needs to stop with this style of rap

    Alan Forever (feat. Crystal Torres)

ā€œAlan Forever,ā€ he imagines the fictional future of the deceased Alan Kurdi.

Kurdi drowned at just three years old while traveling by boat from Turkey to Greece with his family. The Kurdi family intended to head to Canada with the assistance of smugglers, but their raft capsized in the waves and Alan, his brother, and mother all died. The image of Kurdiā€™s body taken by NilĆ¼fer Demir is seen as a grim and heart-wrenching depiction of Europeā€™s migrant crisis.

Lupe imagines a future for Kurdi where he is an Olympic-level swimmer:

Now entering that Canadian Olympic swimming team
And those medals are just glistening, so gold
    So cold, yeah
And Alan did the most, all those world records he broke
Thatā€™s why his nickname is the lifeguard and my God is he dope
