Jonylah Forever
“Jonylah Forever,” is about slain infant Jonylah Watkins.
Watkins was murdered in 2013 when a gunman opened fire on the 6-month-old infant and her father. Born in Lupe’s hometown of Chicago, Watkins' murder became a symbol of the city’s gun crisis when it was revealed that Jonylah’s father Jonathan was targeted over a video game system.
On “Jonylah Forever,” Lupe described a world in which Watkins goes to medical school, but passes up lucrative jobs to work in poorer areas that need access to medical care:
At sixteen is when you got your scholarship
At twenty-two is when you got your doctorate
Even now it’s kind of hard to believe
But your father taught you work hard, and achieve
And you complied
Accepted by every medical school you applied
But the coolest thing is when they offered you that high paying slot, you replied
“They need me in the hood,” and that’s where you reside
Free clinic, nobody denied
One of the best rap albums of the past few years man. But I actually prefer Tetsuo even then
Dangerously high levels of fake deep itt
Maybe you should listen to the album. I think you would like it.
If People understand where the songs come from . Maybe it will help with there understanding what the song is about .

Fish is my friends and the whales is my homies
Octopuses my people, the shrimp, they all know me
The sharks is my niggas, the dolphins is with us
The crabs is my comrades, the seahorse be holdin' us down
Jellyfish, they just be rollin' around
Lobsters is cool, they are not food
They're part of the crew
And that mean they're down
And that mean they're down
I love you bro tbh
The album starts out very strong but it's too long and bloated for my own personal taste.
Wav Files is a clear highlight though.
Saying this is a solid album is an understatement. But for some reason I don’t revisit it the way I do Tetsuo despite believing it’s just as amazing.
I be singing the hook for WAV Files almost every morning, it's almost a religious thing lol.
Wav Files has to be his most perfect song
And Soundtrakk killed that s***
