First off, them tweaking the ending of the book to A. Not have Chani be pregnant and B. Not have her stay by Paul's side was a surprisingly good choice and has me really curious as to how Messiah is going to play out

    Classic 10/10 Kino.

The “send them to paradise” line was crazy.

Gonna read them now. Was there a lot of changes?

It's been a minute since I read them but there are quite a few, but they all worked. The ending is the most striking change to me

Going to start rereading them stating next week actually

some of the changes from the book:

no Alia, which I wasn’t that bothered by but in the book she’s the one who kills the Baron

takes place over six months instead of 3 years. understandable to keep the pace of the movie in tact

only change that kind of bothered me was Chani and Paul not having a son that’s killed as I think that plays a pretty big role in Paul’s character turn in the next book

saw some people saying the next movie will combine Dune Messiah and Children of Dune together which makes sense as Dune Messiah isn’t that long of a book

still a 9.5/10 movie. only way I can see it being topped this year blockbuster wise is if George Miller delivers again

  • Liked the changes Denis made from the book to this.
The water of life scene was definitely adapted well. My favorite scenes was the ones with Chani and Paul together on missions. Or even sand walking.
Margot had less screen time than I wanted though. loved her parts in the book

feel like Margot had more to do in the book and obvious Alia was a big change

That and the new kingdom of the apes movie only ones that so far I think might compete for me.

Alia being in it probably would’ve added another 30 minutes minimum and then there’s finding a child actor that can pull that kind of a performance off

yeah tbh he did the right thing. feel like it would've taken people out of the immersion seeing a child that powerful. he kind of got the point across by having her talk telepathically through the mother

were people at y’all’s theaters laughing at any parts? Stilgar was surprisingly kind of funny in this

Yeah a few scenes in my showing. When he said they could nuke the entire planet/it’s just a saying scene. And a few more earlier in the movie.

    Stilgar had people rolling.
the part where he thinks Paul is still the messiah even when he's being "humble"

I thought he said "show them paradise"?

Basically half of Stilgar’s lines lmao

i feel like dune messiah could be a pretty good 2 hour book on its own but now that ive read the changes from the book i feel like it could still be just dune messiah but also incorporate parts of the first book they skipped yk

ending of part 3 should definitely be same as ending of messiah imo

the opening scene, when the harkonnen just float upwards onto the rock/spire is just so f***ing cool.

the water of life drinking and extraction scenes, paul’s first worm ride scene, the three worms attacking with all the fremen on it, the scene when they travel through the south transporting jessica in her little cockpit on the worm

that one shot of paul with the black hood and the black rocks with the huge worm coming out of the sand behind him was one of the best things i think i’ve ever seen.

or when he’s walking through the crowd of fremen and the entire screen is fremen heads and you can see paul moving through the crowd

    GURNEY PLAYING THE BALISET!!!!

the colosseum scene!!!! that’s f***ing cinema. and that final fight scene with the gorgeous lighting in the back and the silence where you can hear every breath and everyone just watching and waiting in the background. holy.

may thy knife chip and shatter
