I know it's pretty much just conventional release cycles that both artists operate on, but it's cool that tyler and earl dropping the same year has been an absolute almost every year since 2013
I’m feeling this. I don’t mind his more abstract songs (lyrically or production) but it’s nice to get something more straightforward and tangible in the mix to ground it all. Felt this is easy to get into.
Also feet of clay is not as bad as people make it out to be. Some of my fave Earl tracks on there. MTOMB makes me feel a lot in such a short run time. I feel like East overshadowed the album, but for me, I grew up listening to those kinds songs in the household so it wasn’t jarring to me, but hahaha it is a very funny sample.

Doris to me feels as good as don't like s***, it just doesn't have the tight sequencing that Earl eventually picked up on future projects
If you cut that down by like...2-3 songs? I think it can stack up with SRS
hard disagree on doris potentially stacking up with SRS if you cut some songs
his pen game improved so much, production stands out more and is more cohesive, but to be fair he had a whole different approach of writing bars on doris, hard to compare. but i prefer the way he started expressing his emotions more and in a different way after doris, thats why it will never have as much weight as SRS or IDLSIDGO to me
Geez man earl
Crazy to think he could literally be kendrick level if he wanted

Yeah it’s more mature, but there’s a naivety and the last embers of Earl’s youthful rebellion combined with his first real loss and substantive life events that make it a standout
It’s like a journey looking back, while the 2015-2019 material represents an individual who’s already hopped off the proverbial train. But you are correct that in an overall thematic sense, those two do also execute far better. Doris still does have the makings of an OF album, where sometimes you’d do dope s*** that just doesn’t narratively progress anything.
Which is s*** I still like. I can still rock with an Uncle Al or Whoa, bc being able to rap well for rapping’s sake is what made this guy so intriguing nationally, IMO.

Definitely doesn’t have the same pen game for hits, but if you mean as that “renowned lyricist”, yeah that was definitely on the table for him.
I think the “other” path for him would’ve been similar to Lupe, esp pre and post mainstream pop Lupe. Best lyricist of his generation that holds the mantle for other guys with similar talent and ideology

My ktt account is probably older than you, but nice try.
