The singles really fit perfectly into the album, the whole thing is fantastic. Just want to keep replaying it

That first statement is insane lmao

To me slums sound is stretched samples in ableton beats warped mode, and that’s the only beat somebody from slums made on any of his projects. The rest of srs you can argue sounds more madlib/traditional hip hop

That’s fair you can make that argument. But to me I guess I consider the slums sound to also include more traditional stuff like that and especially the drumless tracks. And the beat Navy made for it definitely is slums to me.

The “I did this for you G” on tabula rasa and him pointing directly at the camera in the video makes so much more sense after hearing the album and reading the interviews he’s done. Sick is him meeting us halfway and giving us something more listenable. Now I wonder if the next one is gonna be a return to the SRS/FOC trajectory or he’s gonna lean more into a more commercial sound like that drill snippet we heard

EDIT: I hope it’s the latter

The drumless sound is more alchemist/roc/Mach/madlib imo. Like veins og is slums sound and veins on the album is more just sampled hip hop. And the bends is similar to like MIKE-Hunger but that’s also cuz it’s produced by navy as well lol

That’s fair, I just feel like slums is hugely influenced by those artists you named and even tho it goes back to them I consider it part of their sound too

I interpreted that as a tribute to Ras G, he paid tribute on El Toro Combo Meal too

Also keep in mind Tabula Rasa was recorded before most of the album and was intended for The People Could Fly so it’s unlikely he’s commenting on the rest of the album in any way

I dig that woods made that callback to 'Good Night' in his verse.

Especially cause I recall this Earl tweet

Wonder if that was tweeted around the time Tabula Rasa was recorded. Maybe were all listening to the track and woods deliberately snuck that reference in as a result.

it's right at the start. maybe like 2 or 3 minutes in. it's not clear it's Earl at first until he brings up Tyler then it's obvious lol

Could you give a quick run down of what was said?

either Ice or Ish said "you listen to that new Earl yet" and Joe laughed and said f*** no. Every time they said Earl they bleeped it out. Joe said "Has Earl been on Tyler's last album? what about the one before that. if his mans don't f*** with his music why would I"

they said they're tired of rappers rapping about how good they rap but not sure if that was in reference to Earl or not.

Later Parks said "I like the new Earl" and they just laughed and moved on. Parks was serious though

not word for word I listened to the pod a few hours ago but that's it really
