On a scale from 0 to 10, how underrated is Hoarse?

One of my favorite Earl songs tbh

need more rappers to make focused trimmed down projects like earl

s*** really shines a light on their creativity & strengths as an artist

  • Jan 17, 2022

    God Laughs most underrated

  • Jan 17, 2022

Fire in the hole bruuhhhh. My fav off this album

This whole album jus has a chill, simple, light aura to it but still very poignant. This like that anime mushishi in album form lol

True, Pink Siifu comes to mind. But i think Earl needs to be around the 30+ min mark

I hear you but length really got nothing to do with the quality

That being said I think I would’ve preferred the 19 track album he cooked up before this one

It’s really not that crazy of a take. I completely get what he was going for on it but it just doesn’t connect with me. Weirdly enough I think I prefer Feet of Clay for some reason. He doubled down on that sound but it felt more fully committed to it rather than a half step into something different. Some Rap Songs just never gets off the ground for me. I always jokingly think of it as “Some Rough Drafts”.

God Laughs feels like a sequel to Eclipse

Old Friend feels like it would blend with the end of Nobles

instantly thought of Eclipse when I heard God Laughs

Y’all not gonna like this but for me the middle of his career was my favorite. I’ve argued before that he basically created “sludge rap”, like the hip-hop equivalent of what sludge metal is to that genre. This bleak dark grimy atmosphere slowly chugging along that feels almost oppressive but it also has these bursts of aggression that hypes you up even if only momentarily. He experimented with it on parts of Doris and mastered it with the next record.

I’ve been listening to him since the very beginning of his career, so I also have a soft spot for the rough around the edges amateur stuff. It’s juvenile for sure but there’s this fun anything goes internet punk quality to it that’s rarely ever been recaptured in the genre. Seriously don’t get me wrong, SRS is good, but I just don’t connect with it fully. I always feel like something is missing when I listen to it.
