Yes part of it is because it’s drumless

Here’s what I’m hearing: Earl and Mike both interpreted the beat way differently as far as pocket, so when Mike comes in it actually completely changes how you feel the instrumental, as long as you can follow it. Without getting too technical or really listening and counting, it’s like if Earl were to add drums and mike were to add drums, their snares would be in different places.

It’s actually kind of genius and it can happen a lot with mikes music, for me his rhythms are strong enough to sell it. I lock right in with Mike after the first bar and it’s really cool. It could also maybe speak to them doing their verses separately or just a very personal approach

but IMO its always been a joke. they've been working together (and friends) for like a decade at this point. they probably knew they'd drop and album eventually and did the 'album on youtube already....' thing as a joke
