I’m not even saying this as a numbers guy but more people will line up for an exclusive release with the artists I named versus doing it for Earl and Alchemist

ngl even though the idea of releasing it as an exclusive is not that great I def feel it got overblown on reddit and everywhere else. it's not behind paywall and easily accessible as zip itt and prob anywhere else, so is that really that big of a deal?
this isnt the first time an artist releases something outside of streaming and one thing Im glad they did (and what everybody who tries this rollout should do) is that they didn't put it behind paywall. getting in bed with nfts is dumb but complaining about zips when its definitely not the first time something like this happened (and that it also wasn't botched and paywalled like Black Star's album for example) just takes away from checking out the music, at least in my opinion

What’s so “ceremonious” about dropping on Spotify? Or are you just conditioned to think that’s how it should be, so when it’s not on Spotify, you feel like part of the experience is missing or it’s cheap because it doesn’t match the brand that you support?

I do agree that the whole thing feels a bit anticlimactic, especially with the whole YouTube hunt and all, but also isnt it really on us for building this up as the best thing ever? they definitely dont look at it same way we do, being friends for a decade and prob doing music just while kicking it. they know they have something special but at the same time they dont really 'mystify' or make it self-important like that, which I respect. its just 11 tracks out of probably hundreds for them at the end of the day
