"WLR and Die Lit are top 3 trap albums OAT" headass type s***
These takes make my blood boil.
He’s right but he’s wrong. Words are words and they get twisted b******ized and changed all the time. attempts to control it are just useless . Yes people mistakenly use the word but then enough people do it and that’s what it means now. It might change again, who knows and who cares imo.
Most reasonable response itt
its literally the biggest genre in the world stop trolling
Fr idk why people have a problem with sub genres in hiphop it makes finding certain artists/sounds/styles easier
remember when indie rock 'electronica' et al. fans and other real music connoisseurs took that 'pbr&b' joke tweet and ran with it to coin an entire genre as 'alternative r&b' because they were so terrified of being seen as fans of something outside of the blog canon, so u had undercover racists writing thinkpieces about how how to dress well plucks the best bits of trey songz and makes an album of 'real art'
uhhh, idk. Listen to every "trap" producer for the last 5 years? :word:
once again
what about 2010 sounds more like a trap beat than either SICK! or Vision my nigga
You are dodging my question. What exact elements?
Could went without the goofy part 😡
It was goofy tho the producers are the “definitive sound”
We can’t just call a song produced with a Lex Luger Drum Kit Trap. Next thing u know we’d have a Gucci album competing with BTS and Taylor Swift
what about 2010 sounds more like a trap beat than either SICK! or Vision my nigga.
sick is also a trap beat, moreso than 2010 even. it literally has trap claps and snares
Fr idk why people have a problem with sub genres in hiphop it makes finding certain artists/sounds/styles easier
because it pigeonholes black artists in a box. This the s*** that Miles Davis was fighting against for decades.
We just saw in real time, a P emoji become synonymous with “real” and we arguing over the meanings of words
Idk what to tell you bruh. You can literally look at hip hop right now and see people associating trap with the sound. That does not erase TI, OJ, Gucci etc. I think a lot of y’all are just hip hop purists who can’t accept this and that’s fine. But that’s not how it is. Right now there are more than one definition of trap whether we like it or not. Just like y’all were perfectly fine with taking Drill, a subgenre that was also based on its subject matter, and associating that s*** with the sound now and nobody is complaining about this. Like I’ve never seen anyone argue pop smoke and Fivi weren’t drill the way Travis got brought up itt for not being trap.
Bro wat????? Hip hop purist??? Hello lmaooo nigga are you WHITE? I’m a hip hop historian if anything and passionate about the history of music across all genres.
What you just said is the biggest delusional error to be made and just being a follower without doing your own research on the genreZ
“You can literally look at hip hop right now and see people associations trap with the sound”
You know why? Because people like you(which isn’t bad) don’t look at the history of s*** or research it. So if somebody popular or some popular blog starts saying it then majority will just run with it with no question to the point we get to conversations like these due to misinformation from cacs in the first place. I love all the new music nigga I’m a carti fanatic but I’m not gonna say he Doing trap music just cause he got the sound from it. What sense does that make?
@insertcoolnamehere probably will say this is not a trap beat because it has a sample
If we talk straight up production stylistic
What makes 2010 beat that different from "trap" production?
subject matter first and foremost lol
then if you’re talking about sound then probably the lack of any real 808 sounds (note: 808 as in the 808 drum sounds that trap is historically structured around from the roland kit, not just the bass)
The last trap artists we had of our gen. Idk yalls age but I’m 22. The last I’ve seen was vintage migos(2011-2012) and 2012-13 young thug and 2011-2014ish future and bankroll fresh and 2chainz is a small argument to be made aswell. A argument can be made for the newer street rappers who ran YouTube since the 2016-17 era aswell
chainz probably the most trap artist out of all them lol but you on point. future and migos def for the trap
@insertcoolnamehere probably will say this is not a trap beat because it has a sample
No???
Nigga I just said I'm from Atlanta like a few pages ago.
If anything songs like this, Dey Know, etc. are proof that yall calling 2010 a trap beat are smoking K2?
The definition of trap music today is definitely more muddied, but make no mistake… you know it when you hear it. For example:
Travis Scott does not make trap music.
You are dodging my question. What exact elements?
no 808s. no "tRaP" snares or kicks or rolling hi hats like that.
Like...niggas was in high school listening to Shawty Redd, Zaytoven, and Lex Luger beats.
No???

You still didn't say s*** about why exactly 2010 is not a trap style beat.
It might not be the most typical example but it obviously relies on trap beat stylistic

!https://youtu.be/_85HQlMERDYTravis Scott does not make trap music.
travis has made trap music before
@insertcoolnamehere probably will say this is not a trap beat because it has a sample
i’d say the biggest determining factor when classifying trap music is the subject matter. so this can be classified as such
sounds in music itself isn’t enough to be classified as trap. just because a particular snare/hi hat pattern is used or because there are drums from an 808 kit, that doesn’t make it trap
just because trap made those sounds popular they became known as “trap drums” but all songs that use them aren’t trap
