Been saying that for a long time on this site. Carti, Lil Uzi etc. are not Trap
Uzi made trap tho
Obviously yes but KTT’s RYM base is going to lose it over this
#1 Trap album on RYM is Rodeo
what is their genre?
VLONE-core, drip rap, call it however you want i guess, doesn't really matter
Trap is d*** pusher music
That s*** is either d*** usage or some fashion s*** music (they may have had some actual trap content though, i can't recall off top of the head)

I would ask an average RYM user about their favorite Jeezy or Gucci project.

Vlone-Core might be the perfect way I’ve heard that explained
so if a song has 808s and staccato hi hats, and has one bar about selling d****, does that make it trap?
and if the exact same beat was rapped over without a reference to selling d****, it wouldn't be trap?
Uzi made trap tho
What? Uzi is hip hop / anime nerd from Philly who never had to sell d**** to make ends meet in his life.

Idk about first statement
Second would be just a modern rap song lol
Ffs even pop stars use 808s + trap hats nowadays. Doesn't make their s*** "trap".
Who cares tbh. The shift of “trap” from subject matter to sound happened so long ago you just sound dusty if you still care bout it imo
so if someone rapped over the rubber band man beat, and didn't mention selling d****, that remix would not be a trap song?

There was never a shift of "trap" from subject matter to sound.
It just happened that mainstream rap production became heavily similar to the stuff trap rappers been rapping on. Trap music is still trap music.

trap has always been about the lyrics. pop country and now j pop/ k pop have been using southern hip hop drums for years now and the s*** is not “trap”
