Because they stopped calling it mumble rap and labeled it trap lmao. And you niggas ran with it as “oh yea now it’s a new definition of trap now”

if you say the words trap music, most folks will assume you mean the modern definition (deals with the sound), not the original definition (deals with lyrics).

that's all that matters when discussing a definition of a word. what, you think the meaning of a word can't change?

White people also have this strange narrative that anything that they consider to be trap is automatically of a lower quality than other types of hip hop

How is this true when up 2 me and wlr are ktt favorite album of the past year

If anything it’s the opposite in my opinion

I’m very late on this it appears but all I gotta say is it’s not hard to identify trap vs people who adopt the contemporary elements into their music, dudes like thug, future, nudy, peewee, etc all have similar origins, did the same strip club circuits, bumping shoulders with Gucci ..it shows in the content of the music even though dudes like thug & future have since evolved tenfold they still draw from that content often that’s the real difference

Just cause majority of people don’t know what it is and are following wat other people who ALSO don’t know what it means doesn’t make the word correct or some new meaning.

2 wrongs don’t make a right. Definitions don’t change. The context of a word can change but you know what I’m not about to discuss language arts.

And it’s funny you didn’t answer my last question NIGGA YOU MAKE DnB and JUNGLE MUSIC… BLACK FOUNDED ART. WHY THE F*** ARE YOU FOLLOWING WHITE PEOPLES OPINIONS AND AGREEING WITH THEM AND SPREADING IT JUST LIKE THE REST OF THE SHEEP

    Blame Lex Luger

But I see what he means in that the beat style that’s used by lil pump type niggas got mixed up in same category as the music that revolves around that subject matter

    definitions are fluid things breh

its not a black or white thing in any sense of the phrase.

look i agree w u that people calling it trap is kinda cringe. i get it, it bothers me when ppl call the s*** ken carson raps on "rage beats". I know that it's frustrating when it seems like a word is being used incorrectly.

but u gotta face it, thats how language evolves. that's just how it works. I'm not saying you have to call anything trap music. s*** i dont even call it trap music because i am not totally on board w that new definition either. but there's no reason to hate people who define a word differently than u

808s, whether short or long tailed, and 2-step hi hats have been associated with trap since it’s inception with Migos and Future. but 2-step hi hats go back to the 80s and 90s, and 808 patterns reminiscent of modern day rap/trap/plugg/hyperpop-trap has been in hip hop since the early to mid 2000s.

This misconception of trap music is why people clowned TI when he said he invented trap music - he was a founding father of it, even if the sound was different.

808s and 2 step hi hats can be heard in pop music today, and rock music in the 80s. It’s not exclusively trap music but sound selection contributed when picking your 808 and hi hat samples.

its inception with migos and future
    its past ur bedtime cuz

I wished you would of typed this out first. Cause it made it seem like you didn’t realize it and was just following the trend aswell. The Ken point is funny too because they calling the whole Opium label rage music rn

    that’s a generalization

especially with the term having as broad a scope as it does at this point

also even in the cases where that could be considered true, does that make it “bad”?

    yes it literally does

see the word literally and how people use it to mean the opposite of literally: figuratively

like when shorties be like "omg this latte is so good i literally want to die"

definitions and language are connotative not denotative, there is no ancient civilization that determines the definitions of all words or some s***. the definition evolved. you don't have to like it or respect it but you do have to acknowledge that there is a very vocal majority that uses the language differently than you.

This convo is f***in hilarious if you’ve watched this s*** go from A Milli knockoff beats to our current place

And then to see the vibe that Jeezy/TIP/Wop and their producers put in the game in mid 00s did temporarily get co-opted into EDM just off the drum sounds

Lex Luger doesn’t get enough credit lol

  • Jan 20, 2022

Trap beats are different to trap songs. You can have a trap beat without it technically being a trap song, but I think it’s fair to classify the instrumental as “trap”
