it’s also important to note that drake v intentionally got more international w his sound after 2015. Views and More Life reaching for dancehall and Caribbean sounds was a big part of what took him from big rapper to pop star status and i think branching out is also somewhat necessary after a certain point

    100% agree,

How are you the most dominate artist in your country for so long and don’t have a single sound associated with you or you helped foster from others?

A coloniser, manipulator fake and fraud

    Scam artist

Except he’s wrong and you don’t know s*** about Toronto.

What? Who else sounds like Drake?

Toronto doesn't have a sound it's just people copying bits and pieces from other cities or rapping with that high pitched accent

The birthplace of alternative rnb is literally Toronto and London

Of course genres and sounds don’t grow 100% organically. Do you think because Geto Boys started rapping on soul samples with breakbeats they get to claim that the east coast stole their sound? No, that’s just crazy talk.

I'm confused as to what the "Toronto sound" is. Because everything listed ITT just feels like cauldron of other places sounds

That “trap soul,” stuff is considered to have been birthed from Drake and PND namely

I know Drake is getting clowned but argue in good faith

London is way more relevant than Toronto in hip hop. Helped NYC with the sauce and Central Cee is on his way up.

    Childhood

y'all saying Toronto R&B and tbh I give PND and Weeknd more credit for that with Drake just adding on to the foundation they laid out. Still very important for that "sound" tho

also saying IYRTITL is some Toronto s*** is hilarious when the nigga who was writing on that album is literally just an Atlanta nigga 💀

Other way around drake and 40 laid the foundations and weeknd and party added on it, their own words.

There was non west coast niggas writing for 2001, doesn't make the album any less west coast cause the production sound of it is that. Same with iyrtitl, boi1da and 40 produced majority of it

Good thing we’re not talking about rap only. Rnb exists as well.

Also if your top 2 is Drake and Weeknd it wipes that city, Im sorry

Also it’s cross influence. Chicago started drill, don’t try that

Even that rhythm stems from DJ L all London added were sliding 808s
