Zelda botw has them too and its the best open world oat, elden ring will be fine
best open world game of all time?
Witcher 3, RDR2 and Spider-Man dont exist?
is Ghost of Tsushima not open world to u?
even AC Origins has a better, more full world
maybe u mean size? idk but the "four corners different biomes" design is not creative at all and climbing towers to open the map was the least interesting part of BOTW
this is coming from someone with almost 1000 hours in BOTW lol
What’s wrong with that?
For me its 2 things: 1 - it makes the map too full of markers and objectives and it just annoys me cause i get overhelmed by it, im not someone that likes when a game tells you what to do at all times but this is personal, and 2 - it strips away the feeling of discovery, adventure and mystery the previous games had. When you got in the ash lake it wasnt the game telling you it was there, you found it yourself so it made the experience more memorable, or when you entered the painting of ariamis it felt like you got rewarded for your curiosity with an entirely optional but sick area. If elden ring tells me "hey there's a cool dungeon right there you dont wanna miss it!" It kinda takes away from that feeling of wonder. Botw doesnt have markers set by the game, you make them, and its great. Botw takes you to points of interest using the landscapes which imo works far better: you didnt get there cause you felt forced to, you got there cause you thought it looked cool from a distancr and it actually was. Like i get it they want players to enjoy everything in the game without missing out on content but even then, previous games had fan interaction that did exactly that but in a better way cause the community would be united in discovering every nook and cranny
goddamn need to see the gameplay
i wanna see 4 players playing through the world, starting from a hub with some NPCs, fighting random world enemies leading up to a boss fight followed by some menus and other user interfacing
that's what is gonna make all my friends buy because i already sold them on everything else

I kind of agree but I think in an open world format they probably considered it too cryptic if there wasn’t some form of identification on the map for where locations are. Like in DS1 it worked because even though the world was interconnected, levels were linear and it was easier to remember how to get to a specific location, an open world might be a bit more complicated than that. But who knows, we still haven’t seen much yet

Botw to me does the "open" open world aspect better than all of them.
Botw feels like a playing ground throughout the entirety of the map thanks to the durability system and the "chemistry" system and of course the main concept of being free as soon as you leave the great plateau, with the only real objective being beating ganon, and i, as someone who doesnt value story as much as gameplay in games, was very happy with that.
Also, the world design was to me better, with the help monolith hyrule is full of interesting places to go to that the game never forces you to see, and its gameplay mechanics help make the experience of traversing hyrule personal to everyone. I can go hours talking about what i discovered in the world and how and i know my experience wont be the same as others, and to me thats the quintessential feeling of "adventure" open worlds should strive for and the original zelda for the nes was going for. Sharing your stories with others on how you found evertide island or the satoru mountain or how you found the huge ass horse are a main aspect of the game, since you can go to those places at any time and depending on when you might have a easier or harder time, which creates other scenarios and stories to tell. All of this without endless cutscenes or linear missions that are needed to follow in a certain order for the story to progress and reach the end. Like how cool it is to go straight to ganon as soon as you leave the great plateau, when they talked about that at e3 2016 my mind was blown and seeing people doing it today still blows my mind.
The closest an open world gets to this feeling is red dead 2 but that game to me is hindered by its antiquated mission system that hasnt evolved in any open world rocksar game since the ps2 era. The non open world game that comes close to this feeling for me was dark souls 1

Yeah yeah ur right, we cant really know how it actually is until its in our hands, and i trust from enough to know they wont f*** it up
fromsoft is taking their cues from botw, not some mediocre open-world ubisoft game. there’s nothing to worry about here

AC Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla might as well be as close to BOTW as u can get in terms of massive open world with regions locked behind towers
one could argue that Far Cry 5 and The Division open worlds are just as well made as BOTW albeit a little different
just because it became a trend to hate Ubisoft the last 5 years doesnt mean the games i mentioned are bad at all, the worlds and the stories and the gameplay is always top tier
difference with BOTW is just a nice artstyle + less handholding + more unknown exploration + gliding
finding and doing all shrines = trash
unoriginal 4 corners map biome = trash
korok seed hunting = trash
boss dungeons = trash
number of unique enemies = trash
You do realize they showed like 20 minutes of gameplay already right? To youtubers and journalists, which is bullshit because they basically told to them to tell us what they saw because they’re not showing us s***. And Tokyo game show is already confirmed to be a different game
i just didnt expect Elden Ring's open world to be like Ubisoft or BOTW but i guess it makes sense
there's isnt an infinite amount of ways to do open world, there's a formula that works for a LARGE percentage of players and FromSoftware definitely did their research

patience, also consider they rarely delay their games

the games isn't even out yet
the games isn't even out yet
and yet it was confirmed that the open world will have regions that you cant see until you unlock them like the Ubisoft Tower system
and my point is that if some people have a problem with that, that's fine but it might be a good thing as long as the rest of the game's content is A1
I'm less hyped for this after seeing gameplay. But we'll see what they have to offer

Literally makes no sense considering it was a cinematic trailer with like tiny bits and pieces of gameplay lmao not to mention it looks f***ing incredible. Terrible take

Put Elden Ring and UbiSoft in the same sentence again and I'm mailing you a bomb

u probably smell like doritos leave me alone
dont worry bout me worry bout why FromSoftware is using Tower points in their "cutting edge" open world game
so far the main innovation is playing 4 player coop Dark Souls in an open world
the more they copy elements from Ubi/BOTW/Witcher the more people will be upset because they expect more
