Its what I love about From Soft games so much.
Miyazaki‘s writing and storytelling reminds me of that writing principle called Chekhov‘s gun
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chekhov%27s_gun
Essentially every element you see in From Soft games is in some form essential to the narrative. Nothing is just there for no reason
I feel like thats present in all their games. Sure there are some limitations because a videogame is not a book but a large production. However I really think you can tell that they try to go for it.
Def agree and thats why most stuff eventually comes back around
Like BB with the hunters nightmare n ludwig that was hinted throughout the main game
Friede in DS3 & the Artorios Manus dlc of DS1
Anor Londo being talked about as the place of gods n champions then u finally go there
s*** is dope, thats why i really wanna see this Eochaid place. Briar is from there n the Regalia of Eochid talks about how its an advanced kingdom that vanished & their advanced tech is how the Excutioner n Regalia weapon does that corckscrew attack n that jedi s*** that Briar the Bellhunter does
So much potential for the future
The overall plot is simple, its just the kingdoms of the land fighting for power & youre part of the group that is suppose to put a stop to the war. Every zone is a kingdom such as Limgrave ruled by Goddrick n Caelid ruled by Radahn etc.
Due to the kingdoms fighting they shattered the elden ring & now all the lords of every kingdom took a piece of it, so youre also gaining the pieces to restore the ring.
You ultimately put a stop to it then have a dozen ways for an ending on what you want the future to be.
Everything else is extra, but thats the basic plot & endgoal.
there’s also the metaphorical aspect of the Elden Ring representing unity in the lands between. that’s why Radagon has the image of the full Elden Ring inside his chest when you fight him. it shows that even tho he was unable to put everything his other half shattered back together, he was so devoted to the idea of peaceful unity and opposing Marika that the Elden Ring became his heart. The internal conflict probably has to do with why they’ve been trapped in the Erdtree for so long, neither mind will allow the other to take over the body and leave.
honestly Radagon is such a tragic figure in this lore. doomed to endless internal conflict AND physical imprisonment.
Another example are the travelling merchants. Sure seem comfortable enough that you have these traders all around the map. Cause you need them cause its a videogame.
Well sike
not in a From Soft game
Now try attacking them
and then do the 3 fingers sidequest :word:
What even if the quest to the 3 fingers afaik you just stumble upon them and you inherit the flame of frenzy that locks you into that specific ending unless you get rid of the flame
All that two fingers lore but i feel like i know barely anything about them. I’m glad that i found out about them just at the right time i just beat sewer Mohg at that time before i ruined my first playthrough lmao
True my only minor complaint would be that some enemies return in places where they feel super out of place... like when a single large spider hand suddenly chilling in Mt Gelmir like huh????
Or just the fights with boss hp bar that has reskins that suddenly turns into a gank fight that wasn’t designed to be a gank fight
I totally understand given the scope of it all but that’s the only thing keeping the game from perfect to me. Very very close though def the most epic game adventure ive ever been on besides Shadow Of The Colossus and Uncharted
Oh yeah thats one limitation I was talking about. Animating enemies, bosses etc. is a huge effort. Elden Ring already goes above and beyond there. Compare it to Botw, Horizon Zero Dawn and all the other Open world titles.
However the ambition probably exceeded the scope of what they were actually able to produce thats why I believe they had to recycle bosses and enemies, even from DS3. Simply because you cannot achieve the size of the world. Guess its a sacrifice in a way

Radagon n Radahn are played off at first as bad guys but really they were trying to keep s*** together all along its wild
The minutia of the game is so interesting, im glad the general plot is fairly simple n told straight up but you still have all the twist n turns in deep dives that exist if you want it

Unless u want the game to be in development for like 5 to 10 years

You right its only a nitpick and with a large open world thats free to roam i can do a lil suspension of disbelief and chalk it up to “well i guess the enemies can use the open world as well!”
the spectacle From brought to the table with this one is groundbreaking for sure. I love how much this turned out to meet the expectations

They could have put a b team or even c team on it just for a few minor open world enemies or minibosses. But maybe everybody worked on this together already and they already used all resources. Idk

Once again I feel like people just got no consistency in their argument. Botw and Horizon have like 15 different enemy types. But it didnt bother you back then
Now elden ring bad for recycling a boss a couple times and still give them a new phase, twist nearly everytime

FS doesnt have a big team, most of the people there are the same ppl from the ps2 n ps3 era of FS when they were a mostly budget low tier studio. Thats why BB still has levels of production quality that isnt matched in any of the games still yet even ER, because of that Sony help n access they had for the deal.
I think all that will change tho after ER with all the money n success theyre having. Gonna be like a CD Projeckt red where they go from middle tier studio to major after Witcher 3, but hopefully we dont get a 2077 lmao.

Def agree even s*** like Skyrim.
That n difficulty arguments are the main ones that get on my nerves.
Elden Ring has more enemies n variety then like any other base game that isnt an online mmo/experience.
Theres still so much there and the reused enemies most the time get movesets, phase & cosmetic changes. They usually get significantly beefed up.
I think an ER2 has a high capability to blow current ER out the f***ing water with all the money n support theyre now getting due to ER
The potential future of FS is really exciting

People that still criticize this series for difficulty reasons or no easy mode should just find the biggest cock in sight, shove it down their throat so that i never have to hear their whining again tbh

Why no new IP, let them expand on ER with DLCs imo

oh man it’s gonna be so f***ing good
just knowin that theyll probably
take the structure of elden ring and do a different spin on it in terms of setting/gameplay is giving me a chubby

lmfao i don’t think From has teams working on different projects at once, they’re practically a boutique studio
Am I the only one that went straight to Mohgwyns palace when I was in Liurnia?
i’m seeing people say what level they were when they were fighting Mohg and I’m like hold up when are you supposed to go there
no f***ing wonder that area and Mohg was SO hard
that’s how i felt with Radahn I was there WAAAAAAAAY too early on top of him being pre nerfed
Why no new IP, let them expand on ER with DLCs imo
i agree, i definitely want DLC/a couple expansions for ER but their new IPs never fail to amaze
I still have absolutely ZERO idea of the plot/story for this game and the motives of any of the people
Me neither. Asked for a lore source itt but got told to rewatch the intro again as if that helped the first time
I'm not used to being out of the lore loop but I deadass have no idea what anybody's itt is talking about

You have to do the questline of the first npc u meet, the maidenless guy

you haven’t played enough to know any of it yet bro lol just keep going and paying attention and reading item descriptions and paying attention to dialogue.

f*** him lmao i think i went back right after getting my maiden just to kill his ass

But I just have zero knowledge of the world so any tidbits i get usually seem so cryptic that they mean nothing to me and are forgotten instantly. Does this take place in the same universe or whatever as dark souls? I do not understand how yall are picking up the story so easily
I'm usually the lore master with any nerd s***
