Yea i basically have two bosses left .
I put her off for so long.
My build does fine damage. Got close once but then she whipped out that stupid move and I had no time to react.
Like I get her rhythm now for the most part but then that move just has no counter (for my build)
You can use pots to stagger her out of her animation, equip Bloodhound step on a small equip load weapon like a knife to carry along with your main, or check tutorials on how to dodge either close or mid range.
Waterfowl still sucks and i was never good at it and still aren’t probably (haven’t fought her for months atp) but there are multiple ways to deal with it regardless of your build fam

Once you get the Waterfowl timing, it's honestly one of the easier things to dodge.

I wouldn’t go that far. At the point you get the timing down for waterfowl, with that same effort you can easily learn pretty much every other move as well

this @Kabel
also, whenever she backsteps after you've done a good bit of damage (1/4 of her health) try baiting it out from a distance with a throwing knife!
if she starts waterfowl from very far away it's significantly easier to dodge
over time you learn to suspect when she's gonna use it and you can force it out of her at range

I think that fundamentally having to change my whole style for one move is just bad game design. Up until this point I've been able to fight every boss and enemy without summons and just my weapon, except Godskin duo because f*** that fight.
I'm sure there some dodge window but the move is so erratic and she has super lock on during it make it hard to dodge regardless.
I do appreciate the suggestions and at this point I'll have to use it. It's just annoying how campy it makes the whole fight. I have no enjoyment fighting her because I'll hit her and then because she passed the threshold for that move she'll launch up in the air and whip out that move faster than I can even evade away.
As a move though, it's just dumb. 3 auto lock on super twisters that have essentially the whole map as an
AOE. Super fun.
I avoided looking up guides, but I cannot wait to see how that let me solo her dude beat this girl. I legit have never seen the fight or moves before I played it myself.

I feel you, this is how every one of us felt the first time we faced her too. Just clarifying tho that it is dodgeable without extra shenanigans but it’s a tough move to master for sure. I have to relearn it each time again when i fight her personally

This is really solid advice as well
Replaying this right now (third time). Originally played it on Xbox Series S but now I'm on PS5. I'm at Crumbling Farum Azula. Absolutely love this area. One of my favourites. Found a secret path here that I had completely missed before. Just ate the Godskin Duo and I'll be making my way to Placidusax and then Maliketh.
Gimme a Stake of Marika near Placidusax man.
Edit: Nvm, got him in 3 tries
I still dont understand why they didnt put one for Placi, why have this mechanic if we still end up having a few dumb runbacks for no reason? They don’t come close to dark souls runbacks but still

Yeah, they could’ve patched that in but I guess they just don’t want to. Fortunately Elden Ring’s runbacks are not as harsh as the previous Souls-games. Most of the time there is a bonfire or Stake of Marika near a big boss fight.
I'm about to hit Malenia up next on my current playthrough. Just reached her grace. I bet she will be just as hard as the first time @Kabel

Damn boi. You gonna beat her before I do. I kinda stopped fighting her for the past couple days. I just needed a break cuz she is tilting.
I started this for the first time blind 2 weeks ago and have close to 60 hours on this. Haven’t enjoyed a game since cyberpunk even at launch somehow, haven’t loved a game like this I think ever
Took like 10 hours to click for me and a whole rebuild later but wow I’m loving this so much man

She's definitely the hardest boss in the base game. Her Waterfowl Dance still whooping me.

I was just 1 hit from beating her butt smh.
Damn. What weapon are you using?
I’m wielding two Great Stars (big mace hammers) that have a passive bleed effect. My build is just pure Strength/Melee (70 Strengh and 70 Vigor). I’ve also noticed that it’s easier to dodge the Waterfowl Dance if you roll into her just as she charges towards you from the air. It’s almost 3 AM where I live so I’m gonna throw in the towel for tonight.

Hah. Saw that edit live. Didn't get the hoe, eh?
I'm gonna try tommorrow. Don't have the patience for that right now.

Haha not yet. I got her down to 1 hit two or three times and then I choked. I know I can get her, I just need a little more luck and remember the timing of another attack she does in her second phase. Other than that I’ve gotten better at avoiding the Waterfowl Dance. What build/weapon are you rocking with?
