The CEOās job isnāt to solve problems you idiot, thatās why they hire people to solve those problems
The CEOās job depends on the company and industry theyāre in, but theyāre main job is to make the company grow in revenue/ stock go up every quarter so that the big shareholders and stakeholders get their profit(basically a slave to them) and are the main decision makers on regarding the overall vision of the company. They are usually the face of the company
Elon's role beyond his technical problem solving skills which clearly are exceptional is the ability of Tesla to hire the best talent. You are going to a good school so you can understand when I tell you I saw all the smartest motivated people go work at Tesla from Stanford or Cal. And then also work 6-7 day weeks 12 hours per day because they were motivated and believed in the mission of the company to make the world more sustainable towards green energy. Not a lot of companies were able to hire talent like that and say what you will, Elon is an exceptional visionary. You can discount the actual problem solving capacity all you want I guess if it helps you look at him less like a pure engineer or w/e you want.
And that's just Tesla, who knows the actual generational impact that SpaceX is looking like it will have on the future of space travel / humanity's ability to get off Earth in any sustainable way

How are his problem solving skills exceptional? What has he personally done that showcases heās a great problem solver?
Heās a great influencer, Iāll give him that. He knows how to sell his vision, but so do most startup CEOs in Silicon Valley. None of what he did was revolutionary in the sense that they were new or original ideas. Electrics cars werenāt new and Tesla wasnāt the first to massively push for green energy in the car industry(Nissan and Toyota were). However, by overselling and over promising(among other things) he was able to change the perception that electric cars arenāt for weird hipsters and donāt have to look ugly. Tesla also almost went bankrupt during production of the Model 3 and if it wasnāt for Musk basically committing fraud it would be under right now.
With that said, whoever came up with the idea on focusing on the charging stations and Musk agreeing with that idea was a great move because thatās the main thing they they currently have over competitors and showed range anxiety shouldnāt be that big of deal when it comes to electric cars. And his push did make electric cars more popular, but that has opened another can of worms with lithium batteries and how the mining for the materials required to create them isnāt so green.
Onto SpaceX, again I attribute most of what has been accomplished towards the people who actually did the work, the people slaving hours away towards what they believe was for the improvement of rocket technology and space travel. What SpaceX has been able to accomplish so is incredible, of course and Musk was a part of it, but Iām not going to attribute the majority of it to him because he didnāt do the actual work.
Yes he gave money to both of those companies, but a ridiculous amount money is thrown around a lot in the startup space regardless. His job was to make sure he keep the lights going, which he did accomplish, but thatās about it.

That s*** isnāt even true either about top engineering talents going to Tesla. Everyone in the industry knows they got awful working conditions. FB, Google, etc still the top recruiters for SWE
