not mad at that
That's Encore and Relapse
Definitely encore but I’ve always felt like Relapse dodged that because it doesn’t take itself very seriously
In fact I think that’s the biggest problem with current Em
He takes himself way to serious, Even when trying to do unserious things it feels very very forced and doesn’t come off as him genuinely being unserious
Skill means nothing if you can't do anything with it
A lot of Rappers would be one of the best if they hyper focused on their best moment/era/lane
These aren't unique to Eminem
Nah its definitely different with Em
His skill definitely meant something
I’d disagree on top 10 most talented
There’s a lot of things you can be talented in as a artist
Em only has like, technical rap skill as the consistent one.
If u take eminems music since 09 he’s bad at hooks, he’s bad at beat picking. He’s a mixed bag as a writer, he’s bad at making cohesive albums, he’s bad at sequencing and he generally just doesn’t have great ideas
Most talented lyricist
Most talented lyricist
what do u think constitutes most talented lyricist tho like do u mean writer too?
Eminem Show is his only great album
Nah. MMLP and SSLP too. Let's not rewrite history. All 3 of those albums were a strong trifecta.
Eminem was def more left field artistically than Jay Z with songs like Guilty Conscious, Kim, Stan, Cleanin Out My Closet, etc. and I think that's what the OP was referring to.
Em and DMX both were known for having song concepts that were considered too raw and edgy even for hip hop standards.
However, artistry goes beyond how unique or edgy your song ideas are. Jay's artistry was very strong in albums like RD, Blueprint, and Black Album as well as many of his B Sides/deep cuts in the Volume albums, Streets is Watching soundtrack, and even BP2 which contains "Meet The Parents."
Maybe Jay did seem more "derivative" than Eminem as a generally flashy braggadocio and street rapper but he still had strong flows, wordplay, bars/quotes, charisma, and style. And he did it all without written verses like Biggie before him.
So, as great and impactful as Em's 99-03 peak was, I wouldn't say it beats Jay's 96-03 peak if not for the sole fact that Jay's prime lasted longer. Em did have a much higher popularity peak though.
in the years they released yea
no way these niggas are going to bat for Volume 3, The Dynasty and Blueprint 2 over Em's 3 classics

nobody would but thats a crazy metric to determine em is better than hov tho when hov is leagues better and even by this metric hov got 3 or 4 on him
"I believe Jay Z is more respected as a business man rather than a rapper which is where my confusion lies when people put him as the better artist"
like bro huh

No song writing is hooks song arrangement subject matter etc
Lyricist is just rapping
