Nah cuz Post Malone is doing what Elvis did in 2020. Elvis was doing that before the Civil Rights Movement even started. Post Malone should know better, and does, but doesn’t care.

true but given post is able to feature a lot of black artists and comes up with original material from what i can tell, he has a bit more credibility to me.

If you don't think Elvis did the same thing you don't know 5os rock. Elvis is the reason all the teenagers were even allowed to listen to the rest of the black rockers. And he gave plenty credit where it was due as far as his influences.

"I thank God for Elvis Presley. I thank the Lord for sending Elvis to open the door so I could walk down the road...”

    — Little Richard

i'd never seen that quote. those artists definitely loved elvis tho.

i think over time he's not been seen as positively. if you think about that famous Chuck D lyric on Public Enemy's Fight the Power.

I wouldn't go as far as he did. but i get why people feel like that now. Elvis' first single is listed everywhere as one of the greatest singles of all time, but then nobody ever mentions the original from Arthur Crudup. i get that it's cos it wasn't as culturally relevant as Elvis' cover, but i think now some people see him as inauthentic. all he did to the track was cover it and then he gets the credit as if he originated it.

First of all Chuck D has redacted what he said about Elvis in the song and changed his stance, in relation to Eminem conveniently enough:

"Eminem is the new Elvis because, number one, he had the respect for black music that Elvis had,″ Chuck D said. I think he’s courteous and sympathetic to black music, and, unfortunately, he’s more sympathetic to black music than many black artists themselves.″

Second of all you have zero comprehension of music history of you don't realize that Elvis is many times more of an iconic figure than Eminem will ever be. Whole library's of books have been written so I'm not gonna bother getting into it but just know that Eminem's 3 year golden streak of relevant music will never compare to Elvis' decades long run as the embodiment of America.

i never saw that em quote from chuck, interesting.

obviously, Elvis is more iconic, relevant and his music will/has lasted longer than Eminem's. you can respect that without liking the music

I mean not even, I love Fade, and post is great on it and he’s a talented musician, I just have to question how a man who would eventually call his mother in law a White supremacist feels comfortable collaborating with someone who with his own future logic is also a White supremacist. I wonder how Kanye feels about Post Malone today.

the thing that bothers me about him is the same as billie eilish. use a culture to get hot and then s*** on it in big mainstream publications with bad generalisations. why do that?

i guess kanye said some similar things around 808s but it seemed like he was joking tbh

The thing about Billie though is that she doesn’t literally pretend to be a rapper she categorically stays in her lane. And that’s not to say that White people can’t be a part of Hip-Hop or Hip-Hop artists. It’s that Billie understands that Hip-Hop is friendly towards her because she is a fan, whereas Post Malone deliberately portrays himself as a Hip-Hop artist meanwhile taking no real interest in the culture of Hip-Hop, not contributing anything except feature placements for Black artists, and simultaneously taking away potential chart positioning from actual Hip-Hop artists. And we can pretend that chart positions aren’t important but then we also have to pretend that the reality where Astroworld’s 2nd week #1 over Queens first week #2 will forever be held over Nicki’s head isn’t real either. And that’s not to come at you personally that’s to the people who say things like “why do you care what Post Malone’s album is categorized as on the iTunes store?” “Genres are so blended now a days” and statements of that nature
