Didn't see a thread on this yet, but since i know people there, and it could have impact on the whole of East Africa (and the EU in a sense), i think this is an important subject.

    nytimes.com/2020/11/15/world/africa/ethiopia-abiy-tigray.html

Mightve missed a thread on this btw, lemme know if i did

Has been coming for a long time, TPLF some c***s

  • Nov 16, 2020

Many criticisms to be made about Abiy, but TPLF literally doesn't recognize the federal government and they launched an attack on a military base of the capital of the Tigray region...

A military offensive by the federal government was definitely warranted, but I hope the conflict doesn't last too long.

Is that bbc article a good summary ?

The West hasn't chosen a side (yet) so they're not that biased towards any side in particular.

They do downplay how dangerous Jawar Mohammed is tho.

The Dutch articles i read on this matter are actually better than the American ones. The CNN one kinda takes a stance against the federal government it seems

Well that makes sense. If the West is gonna take a side it will definitely be against the Ethiopian federal government, since they're in a dispute about the Nile river with their puppet dictator of Egypt Sisi and Trump already talked about how Egypt may have to bomb Ethiopia.

Is there a clear right and wrong side in this? Genuinely can’t tell from what information I have read.

None of the parties are "good", but TPLF is definitely the agressor in this conflict. And given the dictatorship that they established under Meles, I would choose the current govt over them any time of the week.

Its a loss for the people of Ethopia either way. Really sad tbh.

    @Marble

The dictatorship under Meles was terrible, my mom didn't go back to Ethiopia, her home country, for about 20 years due to her political affiliations in the past.

When my mom wanted to buy an Ethiopian flag without the new emblem they added to the flag when the TPLF overthrew Meles in the 90s at a flea market, my family had to step in because they knew that she would get in trouble.

But Meles overthrew Soviet-allied govt and was friendly to US interests, so Obama said that Ethiopia had """free and fair""" elections, despite Meles' party getting 100% of the seats lol.....

There are no "good guys" in Ethiopian politics, it's f***ed.

It's all about tribalism, not even a chance to debate political positions right now.
